Fantastic Fan Cover Question

All my fans work off a button and all of them have rain sensors. I installed the covers, Max-air, designed to work with these vents ( no drill, just pop the little tabs out ) so I could leave them open all the time while parked at home.

My question is, when I hit open it will stop when it hits the cover but am I hurting anything by stopping it. The vent would open another few inches of the cover wasn't stopping it. Once the vent cover touches the cover it will keep opening untill can't anymore. It's not like it stops the second it touches the cover, don't want to hurt anything. Thanks!
  • The control board for FFs will shut the power off to the up/down motor when it senses an obstruction (current draw spikes). That is the same thing that happens in the full closed position.

Won't hurt anything! In fact, you can reach up and grab the knob to stop it in any position.
  • Personally, in that situation I would disengage the tstat and just raise it manually. Nothing gained by using the automatic, and it's working against the "automatic" part of the equation. Might not harm it, but why take the chance? But that's just me...
  • Mine (2) have been 'stopping' when hitting cover for over 7 yrs. operating via t-stat.

    No harm....still work like designed.

It knows when it's fully open when the motor stalls so hitting the cover sooner makes no difference... 11 years on mine.
