Generator plug in front of 5ver

Just to make a point, I was NOT trying to hi-jack the thread, but to point out what I did to get power to my rig from the truck, and what led up to my doing so. Sometimes it helps to explain what you did and why!

IMO - you have more generator than you need - - but you can also power your neighbor's RV - maybe in exchange for a 6-pack, or?..;)

and no harm in starting a new thread either place rather than hi-jack.

Thx I'll look for the box. This one was too obvious, right above the generator box built in the front compartment.

No, that is just a circuit breaker box. You should have a transfer switch if you got the generator prep package.

Here's what my box looks like now. It has 3 wires and circuit breakers, all hot when plugged in.

Is the transfer box something else?

Now that's what I'm talking about... I'll pull it apart tomorrow and take another look... did it once, and it looked like each wire was hooked up to a breaker...

If you have a generator prep package you should have a transfer switch. Take off the cover and look inside. It should have two 3 pole contactors in it. You should have one set of three contacts not being used. This is where your generator will connect too (Line1, Line2, and the Neutral) The ground also needs connected to the ground bus bar. On my new Columbus 295rl I just did this last week. I installed a 50A receptacle on the front of the trailer and run about 6' of cable to the transfer switch which is in the cargo bay. i keep the Honda EU7000is in the back of the truck. When you turn it on, it takes the transfer switch about 2 or 3 seconds to switch over and apply the generator power to the trailer. I didn't like the price of the generator prep package from the factory but now glad that I got it because it made it so easy to connect my generator without having to pull off the underbelly and run wire all of the way back to the breaker panel.

Thx for the replies. I'll see if I can figure out how to do pics. Really, it's a box, like a square D, with 3 circuit breakers. They told me at the factory that they didn't really do anything unless hooked to a generator. I had them all off and when I plugged in, the residental fridge and TV on that wall didn't work. I turned the 20 amp switch on, and "bingo" all was fine.

The company did give me some diagrams, but unfortunatley didn't come with a wire diagram. Always a new puzzle.

Our 5th wheel came with "partial" generator prep. It has a 50 amp twist lock Marinco receptacle mounted on the front of the 5th wheel along with an automatic transfer switch. We use a 50 amp twist lock to 30 amp male adapter to plug into a 30 amp extension cord that then plugs into the 30 amp receptacle of 2 each Yamaha EF2000is generators running in parallel in the bed of the truck. With this arrangement, we can run 1 15,000 BTU air conditioner while on the road to pre-cool the 5th wheel and also power our residential fridge that would otherwise operate on battery/inverter power without the generator or shore power.
