I am planning to get either a Honda or Yamaha 2000 size generator so we can do more dry camping. My query is about carrying it. The front storage compartment on my Everest is certainly strong enough for the weight but what about gas fumes? The jack motor is in there and on the outside left is the propane compartment and in the right outside compartment are the batteries. Over head inside is our bed. Is this a bad idea? I want to keep it (and us) safe and out of sight.Also, are these two the favorites or are there other choices? I want the quietest but also the best quality.

I have a "Geardeck 17" on the back and carry a Champion 3100 Inverter. I can prop the lid open to serve as a rain cover and run the Genny from there. Others recommend carrying in the truck bed.

Hi,I carry the generator on a rack on the back.

Basic options: - Rack on the back: Downside, it tends to be bouncy and the typical sewer pipe tube is a little iffy for holding it. - Back of the truck: Downside, less convient if you want to take the truck while the wife stays at the trailer. - In a dedicated storage space: Eats up valuable storage space. - Mount on top of pin box: Without electric start, may be hard to start if you are short.I would recommend against just sticking it in any old storage space. As you noted, there are potential spark producing items that could set off any fumes that accumulate. Not to mention, a good probability, the odor makes it's way into the living space.

If we're using them on the road and the weather is dry, I'll carry our 2 each Yamaha EF2000iS generators in the bed of the truck, suitably cabled and locked. If the weather is "iffy", we have covers for the generators.If we're not using them and the forecast is for rain, I can just fit both generators side by side in the QuickDraw cargo drawer in the basement where they take up minimal space. The Yamaha EF2000iS generator has an on/off selector on the fuel tank cap that, in the off position, seals off the fuel tank so that gasoline vapors are not a problem if the cap is properly tightened.Rusty

We put our two Honda 2000s in the passenger side storage space of our FW, make sure the little on/off selectors are turned to off and have not had any "smell" issues. We don't full-time so we don't use that storage space for anything else, other than the Lynx levelers and a couple of chocks. Seems to work ok for us, other than having to lift the generator up over the lip of the storage space. I find that, as I get older, the generators seem to get heavier.

X2 My front compartment was made for a generator installation so it is a separate area from the basement. No fumes or issues in more then 10 years of storing the generator there.

I wouldn't worry too much about the fumes. When I have my truck camper I have my Honda in the back seat of the truck on the floor. Still can't smell it.

Side compartment storage. Had it in the front compartment, but it was a chore to get in/out and hard on my back. I think either location is safe. The gas cap should have a vent valve. Close it.

Getting in on this kind of late. I carry my Honda eu2000 in a bag in the front storage compartment.

I have a Champion 4000 and just carry it in the truck bed with a 30A extension cord to connect to the trailer.

I think Honda makes the best genset and most places carry readily available parts.

Weld a plate to the pin box and mount there with tamper resistant bolts.

We had a 5k Onan generator in the front compartment of our former Everest. Worked great. That's what that front compartment is for. It didn't have any special venting. I wouldn't leave a generator out in the open where thieves can get to it.
