Getting new Goodyear G614's very soon. Over the years I've had installers tell me different "musts" for safe jacking techniques and jack placement positions. Last time on this large very heavy Grand Junction they used 2 floor jacks (doing one side of the trailer at a time) one jack under each of the axle to spring U bolts points, jacking both wheels "simultaneously' off the ground. Others have said only jack under the frame, one jack in front of wheels and one behind. But on this trailer I have a propane gas pipe directly covering the underside of the front frame, that would be crushed. On my lighter trailers, flat bed & horse, the jacking points are not quite as critical because the trailer lifts more easily. But on this heavy trailer damage can be done jacking improperly. Can anyone tell me the right way to lift one side at a time on a large heavy 5ver????

Under the axles. I would not allow anything else, but fortunately Americas Tire has well trained people.

We had new Goodyear's installed in February at a shop that does trucks. I was not able to post the pic, if you send me a pm I can send it to you. Ours weighs 19,400 and it was a little scary to see it on jacks.

I called Northwood Manufacturing (Arctic Fox, Nash, etc) re: this very question. Their factory production manager told me this:"On the i beam (main frame) closest to the affected tire and wheel. NOT on the axle or spring hanger."

The axles need to be lifted right under the spring pac!I would do this if they can't hit the spring pack. NO it's not going to hurt to put one sides load on one tire! What happens when going over a curb? I said this because the nay sayers would have chimed in.

"(Usually lots easier to access the frame for jacking)" It may be easier to access the frame but do you realize how high you have to jack the frame to raise the tire off the ground? I would not care to jack one corner of the frame of my toyhauler probably a foot or more to get that wheel off the ground. Just seems like a real bad idea to me.

Oh geeze, we've been over this a billion times. The warning not to jack under the axle is a CYA, pure and simple. If they said it was okay to jack under the axle some nimrod would put that jack in the middle of the axle and then complain, "But you said it was okay to jack under the axle".

If you talked to someone who isn't influenced by the legal department they'd tell you the same thing. I'm more than willing to tell Dexter, Lippert, and whoever the same thing, and if they're honest they'll agree.

If the OP isn't aware of the billion times - and the axle alternate
to jacking under the frame......

he IS a newbie (noob as indicated) and sure as heck needs the same CYA - which will work just as well -or better- than jacking under the axle.

(Usually lots easier to access the frame for jacking)

Soooooooo call it a "CHA" - for "Cover HIS A**"

At least the mfgrs (axle & trlr) receive good (legal?) advice to pass on to end users for safe operations - whether it's CYA or not.

^^This. But I just need a 1x6 under mine to get enough clearance. I think mine is the "Super?" Trailer Aid.

Ol Bomb, you just made an excellent point.

We should not be surprised that a manufacturer says, don't jack on our product (axle). Jack on that other guys product (trailer frame).

'Course, it's all the same LCI now.

OK I got the new G614's installed this morning. Jacked up one side at a time using two jacks each placed directly under the spring perch U bolts on each axle, jacking both jacks simultaneously. Easy and worked perfectly.

I've always jacked under the springs/perches and never had any problems. To me that seems like the safest place, it's designed to take the load of the TT.

Apples and oranges. If you =know= you're working on the suspension, then you =know= you're going to have to jack on the frame, so you have to plan accordingly. Cribbing, and lots of it, or jack stands are the order of the day, in that case.
