I'm in no hurry. Got a trip planned in early October so I still got some time to play around.

Not going to argue that. The problem is that you just can't figure out what the markup really is on a particular brand or unit so you don't know what you can really get away with.

Like I said my last camper was 45% off their MSRP and that was out the door. Taxes, fees everything.

Will I have a repeat of that same deal? Who knows? Maybe? Maybe not? But I am 38% off MSRP on a deal that I made yesterday.

Lets say dealer cost is 50k. He marks it up 65% MSRP 82,500.

You show up and want 35% off MSRP 53k.

He made a cool 3k and if he sells a lot of those units at that price he likely won't be in business long.

Here is another hint. These dealers have to pay employees, huge electric bills and float units that have been sitting there for months and months.

IF you want this trailer , and it's in your range,,,,,I second this....bounds like a road trip is in order !!!! Mini vacation for sure......it's a great time of year for a road trip

FWIW, I bought my 5th wheel from Holman's last year. I had them order the unit I wanted, then drove up from Florida (2 days) to get it. I camped on their lot for a couple days going over everything and then camped my way back down to Florida. No big deal.

I treated it as a small vacation, which would be my advice to you.

Then get it on paper.

Now, shop that price around to dealers closer to you.
Decide if you're willing to travel to save $xxx - or will a closer dealer come close?

If you must have a unit "now" you are in competition with everyone else who is looking (and also "negotiating").
Depending on demand, the dealer can pick and choose (wait for) the deal *he* likes.

True. But when the unit is marked up 45-50% plus manufacture to dealer discount and you offer them 35% of their MSRP for the unit I believe you have offered a fair deal.

They would be making at least 10% on the deal.

I have seen lots of invoices and paperwork for dealers from manufacturers. Markups are all over the place. I have seen them as low as 32% as high as 55% and I would say average is 45%.

I just had a salesman the other day exclaim that they were going to lose money on a offer that they gave to me. Really? How do you stay in business if you are losing money?

Same dealer sold me a unit 2 years ago at 45% off the msrp and that was out the door. All I had to do was tell them I was going somewhere else to deal and they lowered the price instantly.

That was in February though and a left over model.
