The OP certainly showed the service that GD believes in. We are beginning to consider replacing our 5er so yesterday hit the closest dealer for them to where we live. They are on our short list for sure. My only knock on them was what this thread started at with a lower quality AV equipment. I'd also noticed the roof vents didn't have better fans and after a weekend of of low voltage issues and not having AC having something like a Fantastic Fan should at least be on the option list. maybe the same with better quality AV equipment.
I guess it depends on which model you are looking at. Ours came with MaxxFan units with rain sensors, etc.
Pretty much everyone is installing the same type of audio/visual gear in their RV's, there are only so many companies making systems designed (or suitable) for them. If you really want a good system, at least some of it will need to be aftermarket.
99% of them will have to be after market...I have 5 dual cube Bose speakers/Bose sub and a Vizio TV with Yamaha receiver and Sony Blue ray DVD/CD player....Most systems put in new 5er's is lower end..period...Everything I have fits in place perfectly...but I really wouldn't want the manufacturer to put that type equipment in the 5er...One could only guess what they would charge for it...They make HUGE profits on the nickel-dime A/V systems they put in them now, just like some do by putting the China tires on their products.
Grand Design, as I stated earlier is it's own company, high quality and people building them that seem to care what they turn out. I will look at them along with several others and should I purchase another 5er one day, I will provide my own TV and A/V system, get it cheaper and it will last longer.
