Has anyone used Rain-Ex on the nose of their 5th-wheel?

Seems like it might make it look nice and also make it easier to clean after travel.
  • Rain-X window treatment is alcohol based. I don't think I would use that on fiberglass as it may strip the finish. The Rain-X car wash should be safe for the finish, though. But I vote for the Maguire's also.
  • I have run my truck and trailer through the Blue Beacon washes and used their Rain-X rinse. I specify low power (power wash), no chemicals and the Rain-X rinse. Both truck and trailer come out sparkling.
  • We have hard water at our home, so water spots are always a pest when washing our vehicles. However, I've recently been using a Rain-X spot free car wash (they label the product as "new" to market...). It kind of puts that Rain-X effect all over the vehicle, where it makes water just fall off.

Anyway, the other day when I got done washing my truck, I had some left over in the bucket. Our front cap was still messy from the bugs on the last trip and was starting to get the green/black mildew-type streaking, so I decided to try the leftover car wash soap on it. It cleaned off real well and gives the same affect. Last night it rained, and this morning the front cap looks nice and shiny.

    Just something to consider...
  • I'd be very careful using a product for unintended purposes. Read labels carefully. Especially the warnings.

I'll stick with my Mequires Flagship marine wax thankyou. A pure protectant. No cleaner chemicals in it. Once a year application on a cleaned surface with oxidation removed by something else.
  • I suspect rainx is slightly acidic, as I ran into the same issue after using it one time. I now use a small piece of paper towell, folded a couple of times, and toss when done.

I would wax, not use rainx, on the front of your camper...
  • I think Rain-ex is pretty powerful stuff and I would be a little careful.

I've used it many times in the past, using a wash cloth to rub it all over my windshield. I remember that on at least one occasion I picked up my rain-ex wash cloth after it had been sitting on a shelf in my garage for a couple months and it basically crumbled into dust. Kinda weird.

    * I have also used Mcquires - it works great.
  • Rain- ex is for glass it makes som plastics go soft and scratch, don't know what it dos to fiberglass.

I think a good wax job would be better.

I use McGuires Marine liquid wax. Great stuff and really brightens the decals. Usually only have to do 1 wax job a year:)
