Has anybody made or bought a cart to move their hitch around on? I have a gravel path to my storage shed and would like to make a cart specifically for my B&W companion to live on. It would have to be compact and have large wheels to roll on gravel. I was thinking about a lawnmower with the engine removed. Any ideas or has anyone made something like that?

I found an adjustable hand truck to work really well on occasion. This one in particular has worked for me http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-1000-lb-Capacity-4-in-1-Hand-Truck-60137/203875537 but you might want to find something with larger secondary tires for gravel.

If the gravel is not too loose, then a furniture dolly like this oneand replacing the wheels with larger pneumatic ones would probably work well.

The furniture dolly works for me (all rolling on concrete) so haven't made one.The dolly (solid) wheels are under the frame, probably could be changed to larger casters (maybe expensive) - but would still be solid and probably still a PITA on gravel..:(But - *HERE YA GO* !!Harbor Freight has two items that should handle your gravel with ease.1. "Steel Mesh Deck Wagon" - 1,000 Lb capacity.Comes with a pull handle, and has large wheels.Can't tell from the pic if they're pneumatic or not.2. I don't store the trailer at my house. I could but when I go pick up my trailer I have very little time to get hitched and back home. If its at home I can install it at my leisure a day or two before I go pick the trailer up.

My thoughts are the same as packnrat.

Can't you just leave a hitch of that type hanging on the fifth wheel.

I also use a rolling engine hoist to lift my 300# Pullrite Superglide out of my truck. Then I lower it to a furniture dolly on concrete. The furniture dolly could be modified with larger wheels for gravel.

why not store the hitch assamble on the rv?

leave it hooked up and lift it off the bed of the truck.
couple padlocks keep there.

makes great use of dead space.

A sore back? Say it ain't so! The last time this came up carrying a B&W was mentioned as a way to keep you fit. If you had a lighter hitch you'd wind up using a walker before your time.

So, man up and tote that beast. Just be sure to lift with your legs. ;)

Just kidding of course. I use my engine hoist to move a lot of stuff besides engines. But it wouldn't roll very well in loose gravel.

x2 I have the same system, and I hang my hitch on the wall using 2 hooks, it resides between the Mona Lisa and Salvador Dali Meditative Rose, and can still get around in my garage/shed.

Why lower it? One only needs to make a pair of new handles and put them lower on cart frame. JMO
