We decided on Jawbone for Memorial weekend, anyone else going out there? It will be our 1st time.

So we are leaving tomorrow, where is a good place to get water? This our first trip in our Rage'n trailer and I don't want to carry water all the from Fresno, normally it's just the wife and I in the truck camper. This trailer will hold 150 gallons, but I don't think we need all that. I assuming somewhere in Mojave, hopefully not to far in to town, Thanks and I hope everyone has a Great and Safe Memorial Weekend

I drove by last weekend and thought about you going for the first time. Where do you plan on camping? There are really two areas, Jawbone Canyon and Dove Springs. In Jawbone you're pretty limited to camping in the canyon proper and a lot of it is sandwash. In Dove Springs there are many more camping opportunities, all desert pull offs. I think there are more trails close by if you camp at Dove Springs. But as I said I avoid this all together as its not much fun on two wheels anymore.
Thanks for thinking of us, we will do dove springs then if its better camping. Thanks!
Camping tends to get pretty tight in Jawbone. In DS you can spread out more. To get there stay on hwy 14 about 6 miles past Jawbone turn off (the Jawbone visitor's center is EXCELLENT with plenty of maps thanks to Ed Waldheim's group Friends of Jawbone). After you turn left onto the dirt road you'll see quite a few campsites on either side of the road, all are good. If you continue straight you'll get to a big dirt road parallel to the pipeline (we used to call it the dirt freeway). If you turn left you'll go down into the "bowl area" that's open riding with short hill climbs, mini tracks, etc. and usually very busy/dusty/crowded. If you turn right there's camps on either side of the dirt fwy. but be careful as that's all limited use and you can't just take off out of camp in any direction, not good for little kids on quads. And make sure you're back off the dirt fwy a bit as people FLY down that road in all manner of vehicle.
