landing gear and stab jack override

I have read on this forum, but can't find it now, how you use a drill and socket to raise and lower your landing gear in an emergency. Here's my problem. The shaft to turn on the 5er is round with a nub on it to catch the cut out slot on the handle so you can turn it.
Think old scissor jack handle and jack. No socket will fit. Is there another solution? Like the idea of using a drill.

I do have a little experience since my first fifth wheel was a hand cranker.

My late b-i-l's old, 19', FW had hand-crank landing gear, and that's what he did with it. IMO, it was geared very near what my Komfort's legs are.

It all depends on the gearing. Some goosenecks are a killer and my guess is your manual crank 5er is the same. The motor to turn the landing gear is not very big and most are super slow which tells me they have geared them way down to go a cheaper motor route. That means it probably doesn't take too much effort to turn the manual bypass in an emergency.

I have never done this on mine, guess I better try it and see just how much effort it takes

If you have the manual crank specific to the landing legs on your FW, get a second one, cut it off and chuck it up in your drill. If you don't have one, buy TWO, cut one off and keep one intact for when the battery runs down on your drill so you can still crank it by hand. :-)
