Landing gear wont work with switch but will with remote

Like the title says....the landing gear on our 09 Montana will not work unless you use the remote......

Checked for a fuse and there is not one......from what I read there should be one

Checked all three of the reset fuses and there is power on both sides

I am going to try tomorrow to add a jumper wire to go around the control box for the remote

I have read a lot of stuff on the internet and nothing is working so far
  • OK....so the fix to the problem was to add the ground wire like I was sent on the email.....seems like the remote control unit dropped the ground for some reason.....don't know why...but I added a ground to the terminal that says out to remote switches and it works

    Thanks guys
  • So far I have removed both jacks and took them apart to see what is the problem....they both had sheared pins in the vertical shaft that holds the pinion gear....the opposite motor side had both gears that needed to be replaced...after replacing the pins and gears and re-lubricating....I used a drill and chucked it up on the shaft in the jack and away it went...up and down with no issues....so back on the trailer they went....then I had to replace the output shaft on the gear box.....it was twisted up and no good....After replacing the shaft, I installed the motor and used the remote to get it up off of my truck.......tonight I will try and find this weird grounding situation that was sent to me by Carl....BTW Thanks Carl......I will keep updating this as I complete the issue......I wonder what a mechanic would get in parts and labor
  • On my Cougar, the fuse is in the front storage (battery compartment previously mentioned) inline between the motor and the control box. Took quite awhile to find it the first time. It has a cap such that it looks like just a bump in the wire. I now keep a supply of fuses on hand as I blow it every time I raise the landing gear to the stop. I've gotten pretty good now at stopping at the mark so I don't blow the fuse.

I suspect it's the same setup on all Keystones with the Lippert (LCI) remote.
  • I had the same problem with my 2010 Cougar. There is a fuse in the battery compartment.
  • Brother in law has a Heartland big country?? and he finally had a mech. friend find the fuse in a battery compartment.
  • Not only does the question arise frequently on the Montana Owners Club, so does the answer. There is an interlock which is supposed to prevent use of the switches and the remote at the same time. This interlock fails and results in the switch not working. The fix involves moving a ground wire. I don't recall the exact details but I can find it.

EMail me cyoungre at gmail dot com and I will send you what I can find.
  • I guess I should have added that both front and back jacks quit at the same time......cant be that both switches went out at once
