Both axles unless you're looking for 1/2 of the lift that a block gives you. Then you can just put blocks under 1 tire to fine-tune things if you so desire.

Common sense says, to make the trailer more stable, you should lift/level under both axles (or all three) as the lift will be carried by just one axle (spring) otherwise.

When you raise or lower the front after leveling side-to-side it will either increase or decrease the level when you just use one, potentially to the point where it will cause the non-leveled wheel to lift. If the trailer weighs enough, yes it can damage that weight bearing spring.

When we are driving and cross uneven surfaces individual springs are temporarily weighted, but are not normally damaged as the springs are relieved of the weight fairly soon. Parking them that way will eventually flatten the weighted spring.

Not to add more fuel to the fire, but when there is enough drop in the surface you are parking on, it could become necessary to add some leveling between the axles (front to rear.) I have only had to do this twice, but both times it made the trailer more stable, and ultimately, that is one of the several reasons we level the trailers.

I also use a combination of different thicknesses of boards. It makes it easier to fine tune the leveling process. I also use the Lynx levelers occasionally, but only for a major leveling project. If memory serves, the downside of them is that the first block used is 2" and each one added after that adds 1".

I don't think damage is an issue, within reason anyway.

But if you only block one tire, you have to go twice as high with that one tire to get as much lift as you would get putting the same number of blocks divided between two tires. So for example, why put 4 blocks under one tire instead of two blocks each under two tires. Makes no sense to me.

That's oversimplfying to make the point, because at some point the unblocked axle would be hanging. Other than wanting to change that tire, what would be the reason behind that?

Unless you do something crazy it's unlikely to do any damage but not sure why you would bother with only one. We always have a couple of boards long enough for both wheels.

I'v also done both axles. When we went to a new trailer with auto leveler, we were using an air pillow. Amazing how it worked. Not sure they are available anymore. We would back in, put flat air bag under trailer so as we finished the spot where we wanted to park, both tires would be on top of air pillow. We carried a small air compressor, and start putting in air. In a short time trailer was perfectly level, and would stay that way all summer.

I always do both. One would probably be OK but for as easy as it is to do both I figure why not spread the load as wide as possible.
