Measurement of Length

OK I just about landed a great deal...2005 Everest model 293p.
Per the specs it shows the coach at 32.10ft. When I asked the owner to measure it comes to 37ft????? I know the Model number is never the real length. But when the specs call out something 5 feet shorter???? What gives?? We really want to stay under total of 34ft knowing that part of that measurement goes over the bed we are thinking we will more campgrounds..state parks and so forth. So it looks like the 5 ft diff is in the overhang? So when I see the length listed what am I to expect? that it really is only to the overhang? The I have another seller that says his measurement is from the tip of the hitch to the bumper.

My spec sheet lists both 35'-10 and 31'. The pin box isn't 4'-10" long.

A factory rep explained the difference in spec length and actual length. The model number is a model number just that. On the spec length they measure from the pin box. A 39 ft. coach may be 42 ft. overall length. Remember when looking at booking sites if you carry bikes on the back you need to include that to the length also.

Yea, I measured mine three time before we bought it. I have 8" to spare inside the barn. I was talking to my neighbor a couple doors down after he put a deposit down on a new fifth wheel and I half jokingly said "Make sure to physically measure your unit and not go by the literature" A few days later he flagged me down as I was driving by and thanked me for telling him that as it would not have fit in the barn. He was not happy with the dealer for quoting him what was in the book but was happy he did not sign papers on it and then find out when he brought it home. They ended up with another unit altogether. You need to take a tape measure to it.

If I got a discrepancy like that from a seller, I would be concerned about whether the guy actually owned the trailer, or was just a scammer making stuff up.

It's been a month and a half. OP, did you buy it, and what did you find???

I =have= noticed that some mfrs list a length, then a different number for OAL external length. My KZ shows 31'8" but it is specific that this # is king pin center to rear bumper. Given that there's probably 5-6" to the front of the pin box from the center of the pin, that would make it's OAL at least 32'1 or 2". The Jayco I was looking at has in its specs "Exterior Travel Length", of pin to bumper of 30'1" then "Total Exterior Length" of 31'2".

Our Cougar 25RKS is shown as being 27' 2" in the brochure.

Keystone states that their length is measured from the center of the kingpin to the rear bumper.

As stated in some posts above, the number is now more of a model number than a true length.

once the number were very close to the length with the true length was more like maybe one ft longer than what the trailer showed. I cannot understand the reason for fooling folks but somebody tell us please.

^^^^^ Good idea but a simple way is to hold a coin or rock at the front and back caps and let it drop to the ground and watch where it hits then make a mark and measure between the two marks.

Ask the seller to drop a plumb line at the front of the pin box, OR FORWARDMOST PROJECTION, and make a mark on the ground. Same with the rear; plumb line from the bumper, OR REARMOST PROJECTION, to the ground and mark it. Measure between the 2 marks. That's how I got 29'3" on my old Komfort.

My fifthwheel's nose hanged over 2' past the pin. Mine list length is 38' but measures 42' from cap to ladder.
