New 5th Wheel & House Warming?

Hello....

I'm finally in possession of my fifth wheel. I've never done 'house warming' before not even with my current house. However, to celebrate the adventures and future lifestyle, my friends are asking me when I'll have the 'house warming' party, if you will. Did you guys do something similar to celebrate? Can you please share some ideas and general experience?

Thanks!
  • Your friends are just looking for an excuse to have a party! In my mind why not and have fun...at least you know them!
  • We went camping... That was our house warming ...... If they want a party , tell them to get a trailer and join you....
  • This is funny! By all means have a house warming! Make sure it is in a campground at least 100 miles from home. That way you will know for sure that they are serious about camping.
  • Sure. Send out invites, but state that it is a potluck house warming (they bring the food), they need to bring their own drinks and the times are from 4 - 8 pm or whatever. Make sure that they are aware that it will only sleep 2 COMFORTABLY even if it will actually sleep 12!!!
  • Sure no problem but......SHOES OFF AT THE DOOR!!! If you spill anything yer all done!!!! :)
  • I guess we have a different outlook. Camp close to home and invite some family & friends for a open house & barbecue. Throw some dogs & burgs & wings on the grill. They don't need to bring anything & they can leave their shoes on. The RV can handle it.

To warm up the RV, we start every season this way & take them kayaking & show them what a wonderful life camping is. It's not for everyone so don't penalize your friends by trying to make them camp also. Been there, done that.

As we shop for a new 5ver to FT in, we can't wait to have an open house & show it off. More like 2 or 3, but no more than 6! We love the camping & the RV lifestyle & sharing it with others.

Go ahead and have a great time.
  • Thanks all... Great advice. I noticed myself to be a bit protective of my 5er as in no shoes, crumbs or spills and especially always keep screen door closed so flies don't come in. My 5er sleeps 4 and though I don't plan on an all nighter or camping is only because the lot I'm on is not mine. Plus, to get to my area, they'll have to pass by the owner's area.

I have 10 close friends and that's already the short list. 12 people won't fit in the 5er to have some kind of get together inside. There's also not a whole lot of light outside either for us to do 6-9 pm party. Plus, lot owner likes her privacy.

I have a 5th wheel but I don't have a dually yet. My 5er will have to sit tight atleast a year before I can travel with it. If I could travel with it, it would be great to camp away from Las Vegas and probably easier to have party then. Everyone that wanna come and join just pack up their camping gear and meet us at a camp site.

Anymore thoughts given these constraints are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  • Well someone has to address it......

How 'many' people you invite may depend on how big your black tank is!!!!

Along with bring a plate to pass, and BYOB, add BYOTP to that invite! :W

  • Sure, I would invite them and have a fun evening. Only suggestion I would make is that you are camped in a CG that has public restrooms. There is nothing worse that having a bunch of non-RV folks use your toilet and drop everything in there except RV toilet paper! The next day when you try to dump your full black tank and nothing comes out, because it is full of Kleenex, Q-tips, cigar butts, and not nearly enough water.....you will regret hosting that party.

My friends can track mud inside my fiver, they can leave their beer cans laying outside, they can even spill a drink on my floor......I don't care because I can easily clean all that stuff up. Just don't anyone ever put anything down my toilet except bodily fluids, plenty of water, and RV toilet paper!!!!!!!
  • To address the black tank issues with guests, but to also remind the family, I have a poster that I made with really nice writing and background that says "Use lots of water and a little bit of tissue and nothing else but pee and poop". I get lots of comments on it, but I have had clogged black tanks before and it was NOT fun.

DH was gone and I had some female youth from our church spend a weekend. I had to fix it and it took me pretty much one entire day to get it cleaned out (we did have a sewer hookup).
