New Hitch

If I were to buy a new hitch of a different brand, would it fit on the rails already installed to my truck bed? Basically, are the rails universal for 5th wheel hitches?

There are several that share the same bed rail design and set-up. Example: I just replaced our Reese 20K hitch, with a Trailer Save. A drop-in swap.... except for the tractor needed to lift out the Trailer Saver. Man....is that thing heavy!

And then thats when my heavy slider hitch had to go. Now I have the Andersen :)

To answer the OP, I have the picture frame adapter that accommodates most conventional hitches, which the Andersen also fits. The Andersen would also of fit my standard rails on my previous truck.

  • I just replaced my 10 yr old 16K Valley hitch, which sat on universal rails, with a 18K B&W Patriot....and the fit was perfect, it was a very easy swap out/in.
  • Had Reese rails and a Reese hitch @ 1st. Then upgraded to a B&W hitch. The B&W fit with just a slight sawing of 2 holes on rails. Now have B&W rails w/ the B&W hitch and fits like a glove. Old Reese hitch sits in shed.
  • Pullrite has their own rail system (Super Rail) which is different than industry standard rails (ISR). They have hitches to fit both. I sold my B&W hitch and the Trailer Saver fit perfectly on the ISR rails.
  • Just replaced a 11 year old Reese hitch with a B&W and it fit the old rails perfectly.
  • Our beloved Hi-jacker sliding bar hitch from the mid/late 90"s was on a different dimensions vs the modern universal rails.

  • If you know what brand rails you have, that would help to answer. Reese rails were popular and worked with many other hitches. Like mentioned, depends, not all are a universal fit.

  • Depends........

You would need to measure the distance between rails, measure the distance between the slots and the size of slots in current rails

Then you would need the measurements of the spread between hitch 'legs' and if the tabs will fit the slots of rails and if the tabs will line up with the slots

    Depends...

Check the Hitch Mfg. website for dimensions and if 'universal rails' can be used.
