More safety equipment? Stupid does hurt.

Where does it end ? When have they done enough to protect the stupid people ? All while making those that take responsibility for themselves pay.

Those of us that are climbing into these vehicles know what we are climbing into. The risks we know and understand. We are not soccer moms driving Ford Explorers with old under inflated tires on the freeway at 80mph while doing our makeup only to lookup and swerve to avoid rear ending someone.

I understand that since I took off my rear sway bar I have to be careful on high speed turns. I understand that my SxS is very unstable at 70mph. I understand that since I turbocharged it I have to be careful accelerating and not losing control.

The reason some are bypassing the seat belt cut out is so they can install and use better harness systems.

Compared to soccer moms in their SUVs I'm pretty sure the operators of SxSs have a better understanding of the mechanics and limitations of the vehicles they are driving.

I'm pretty sure the manufacturers are fighting this legislation.

They file these suits because they didn't insure for the unexpected and now want someone else to pay for their stupidity- we all know the type. It's always someone else fault. The lawyers who file these cases are nothing more than leeches with a degree.

It would be nice if the folks buying and driving UTVs had the same philosophy as you. Unfortunately, my observations of the ATV/UTV/Dirt Bike community produces a result of many (if not most) folks not following the safety and social rules that you describe. Therefore, the manufacturers and regulators are forced to regulate. You self regulate which is IMHO a minority.

no, self regulating is the majority, unfortunately the non-self regulating is the minority that you hear about. media and the ambulance chasing attorneys bring the minority to light and that's what you read/hear about. 10% are ruining it for 90% in many aspects.

Speak for yourself. Everything I own is insured for any/every possible event. Why? Because I believe in being proactive and responsible. It's also why the only people who drive our stuff is immediately family. The whole family is covered because mistakes/accidents do happen. So, if an accident happens I have no need or intention of suing anyone.

We know when we get on/in an offered vehicle we are engaging in an inherently risky sport. No different than getting on a horse, swimming in the ocean, flying in a plane... we accept the risk and if god forbid something happens- I am prepared and very able to cover the cost/consequences. If you can't do this- if you aren't prepared to do this you have no justification for owning an offered vehicle much less letting your family ride on/in one...

It's time for people to once again take responsibility for their actions and be held accountable. If someone dies in a utv roll over- well that's a tragedy. Someone loosing their house because they didn't insure for an accident- that's a consequence.

There seems to be a consistent theme that all ATV/UTV accidents are based on stupidity (you can't fix stupid yada yada yada). Well, I might agree that the lion share of accidents can be prevented, but evaluating and correcting flaws in design have their place as well. Many folks go out to have a great time and sometimes accidents do happen. I'm OK with a third party poking their nose in and chiming in on my family's safety. A little check and balance doesn't hurt.

I agree with you to an extent. If tie rod ends, ball joints, suspension components and brakes are failing due to poor design or lack of quality parts have at it!

In this case, I'm going to assume they will want to limit steering turn radius to prevent rollover at what ever speed they decide is safe.

That's fine and dandy until your climbing a steep hill and find out you are unable to navigate a sharp turn. Put it in reverse throw in a couple rocks or soft terrain to make a three point turn and down you go in cartwheeled fashion.

Not such a good idea then.

The 2015 Polaris have ignition interlock to prevent starting until buckled up. Ofcourse someboby figures out how to bypass system posts it on the web and everyone fixes it so it doesn't work.
