pin box side hitting trk side rails

Flipping the Andersen adapter moves the pin box forward into the bed by 8". If that is too much, changing the truck gooseball to an offset ball like the Curt Offset ball will negate 4" of that move leaving you only 4" closer in the bed. I posted this solution that another gent on the open range forum documented with pics.

Agreed. However, some of these new pin boxes hang so low below the overhang that the hitch pin sits way below the bed rails. I had the problem with the MorRyde pin box. It's only a 5 minute fix with his Andersen.

As Ken White suggested, reverse the AL coupler connected to the hitch pin. I did that and it solved the problem of the back of the pin box hitting the sides of the truck bed. What it does is move the rear of the pin box closer to the coupler ball giving ample clearance in the truck bed.

It might be helpful to know which model of Trailair extended pin box the OP is dealing with. Our Trailair tri-glide extended pin box looks like this:

Sorry for the thread hi-jack -- have searched site for 15-20 minutes on how to post new thread -- can't find answer, so .............

2000 Fleetwood Avion Westport 5er sat slightly nose high when connected to my F350 dually. I lowered the hitch in truck bed to the lowest position (which is too low for towing a friend's air ride - bumped my rails).
Need to put hitch back where it was, and adjust the king pin box on my 5er.

There are 10 bolts (approx 1" socket) that must be removed to change the height.
Impossible to get hand into opening to hold the nuts.
I HOPE the nuts are captive-type --- please advise.

I really don't want to pull up the bedroom closet floor to access the nuts ! ! !

If the top of the hitch plate is much below the bed rails, the pin box will also be below the bed rails. I believe the Trailair pin box is a little on the long side, which would contribute to the problem if that is the case.

There have been a number of people post here about the same problem. Don't know how many of those had a Trailair though. The standard solution has been to cut off the rear lower corners of the pin box about 3-4" at about a 45 degree angle. Don't know if you can do that to a Trailair or not.

Whether the pin box will ride over the top of the rails depends on the height of the hitch and the configuration of the pin box.
