Good morning guys,
It's maintenance time.
I would like to clean the Way-Tubes on my hitch.
Basically remove all the build up of Slip Plate and re-apply a few new coats.
Anyone done this?
What method did you use?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I just did mine.... I take the entire hitch apart , inspect all movint parts, lube moving parts and start on the way tubes... I will sand them using either sand paper or steel wool all the way down to bare metal.. After I do that I look for scratches and or galling and smooth them out.. At that time I re coat the tubes with slip plate. Once dry I re assemble the hitch , re adjust the nylon block and touch up the way tubes with another coat of slip plate as there is always a small scratch in the coverage from sliding them threw the base.Joe

Thanks Joe.
Sounds like a good plan to me. I'm going to do exactly what you did.

I have never taken the hitch apart in 2 years. I do keep it liberally coated before and after every trip with Slip Plate and nothing else. I'm starting to worry that maybe I should take it apart for an inspection? Phillip
