Question about sealing around windows on a new camper

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going around my camper waxing it and noticed that some windows have bigger gaps than others. What is behind there to seal the window frames to the side walls? To me it looks like a sponge rubber seal? Would it be a good idea to caulk around the windows across the top and down the sides with black silicone? Absolutely everything else on my camper is sealed with silicone. I'm more concerned about preventing leaks that can't be seen until it's too late.
  • Most windows have a rubber gasket to seal the window as it is tightened to the wall. I did put sealant all the way around our window frame except for the bottom edge.

I would highly recommend not using a silicone based sealant but rather opt for a good polyurethane, tri-polymer, or a Polyether type sealant!
  • I have seen silicone on my FW and even the slides of a tiffin MH but I wouldn't use it. I removed a leaking window and found that they had missed a corner with the putty tape. It looked like there was also originally a thin foam/gooey layer at the edge. After seeing the poor sealing job I decided to seal around all the windows and used proflex RV. It seems to still be a little sticky but seemed to have sealed well.
