Question on slideouts; slide on carpet or tracks?

I have a 2008 Heartland Cyclone 4012. It has three slides. One of the slides frequently pulls up a part of the carpet. As I am looking at the slide mechanism it appears that the slide arms are simply used to pull the slide in and out and that the weight of the slide rests on the floor (carpet) of the main body of the trailer. Is this correct? I had previously thought that the slide mechanism fully supported the slide. This leave me wondering how to adjust the slide? I had thought that I would find a means of simply lifting the slide a half inch or so to allow for better for clearance. Yep, I'm confused. Set me straight.
  • There are many configurations. Some have blocks, rollers, or if it's like mine, just a plastic curb that spans the length of the slide and is built into the floor at the very outside edge. As the slide comes in the entire underside simply rubs against this piece. It should cause the inside edge of the slide to tip up and not rub too hard on the carpet if all is working well.
My slide started to rub on the carpet much harder than when new. A careful inspection revealed the plastic curb had cracked in the middle - probably from me stepping on the raised floor of the slide when it was only partially out.
I modified mine by adding 2" X 10" metal conveyor rollers (capacity 1200# each) that are recessed into the floor. The outside 10" on each side of the slide rolls on them and it works silky smooth. I adjusted the height of the rollers to keep the slide from smashing and rubbing the carpet.
  • Lift the carpet and look closely. On mine there are nylon blocks the slide out rests on. Im betting yours is similar. Might need to replace the blocks to get the slide up 1/8 inch to work correctly
