I had the tanks that were de-certified ? they were very lite and clear and fit the tank compartments fairly well . I now have two of these which are slightly larger and hard to see the liquid level with out shaking the tank.
I have been questioned about the recall tanks when refilling but never refused . If your worried about being refused you can print out a copy of the propane institute report to show these tanks are and store it in your propane compartment.

Do you know that for sure, or are you speaking of one local filler? And are they refusing because they think they are the ones that originally failed? IOW are they mistakenly refusing to fill them?

I don't have any, but I like the concept of being able to know how full the cylinders are.

The cylinders come with DOT certfication paperwork. I have not found any fillers who refused to fill the cylinders after being presented with the certification paperwork. Certainly there may be some who won't fill them, but it's likely to be out of ignorance or conflating the recall on old bonded cylinders (made by Lite Cylinders) with the safety of all composite cylinders.

The cylinders are stamped with a statement indicating they should be recertified every 5 years. In some jurisdictions they only need to be recertified decadally.

I was considering them but found out the height limited me to 22 lb cylinders and I didn't want to lose 16 lbs of capacity.

Here's an older thread on Viking composite propane cylinders...

I own them and I love them. Very light and well made. Hexagon Ragasco (the Norway based parent company) products were never part of the DOT recall on composite cylinders. The cylinders weigh substantially less than even aluminum cylinders, and are about half the weight of a steel cylinder (a 17lb Viking cylinder weighs 10 lbs; a 20lb Manchester Tank aluminum cylinder weighs 17 lbs). I'd recommend them any day...

I converted from dual 30lb steel cylinders to dual 20lb composite cylinders and saved over 60lbs of weight from well behind the rear axle of my truck. It's one of the cheapest ways to drop that much weight that I can think of.

Yea I know. You'da thought by now after all these years I'da known better. But like anything else, ya kinda figure, "Ok, one last time I'll ask a question in hopes of a knowledgeable answer". Fifteen responses so far and not one legitimate answer. "DA" me. Lesson finally learned!!!:R No more questions!!!

Sorry, you asked if anyone purchased one. The answer mostly was no. Seems question was answered.

I have the 11# cylinder for my Weber grill. Expensive...yes, Doesn't rust...yes, safer than a steel cylinder...they don't explode they melt down. Lighter...yes noticeably lighter empty.

I tried to purchase the 31# cylinders this year and was told by Viking they don't make the 31# any longer due to low demand. They make the 22# for the front of travel trailers but I have 30# steel in my FW.

It was worth the price to me for the 2 year warranty, non-corrosive, lighter and safer. My Viking will likely outlast my two steel 30# tanks on the FW.

OTOH it would appear that they aren't all that popular for some reason. Maybe the price point is just too high, or people don't trust them after the problems with the early composite tanks. Ya never know until you ask.

When I bought my Lite Cylinders they were only $110 for two. Got them from a farmer friend that was a cousin of the owner. He even filled them from his farm tank. That was about 11 years ago so guess I wasn't hurt too bad. Really going to miss e'm.
