Reese Kwik Slide Problem

Hi,

I have a problem getting the slider pins to lock in position. It seems that the leaf spring mechanism doesn't force the pins in the rectangular slots in the tube rail. The handle lever is moved toward the towing position but won't hold under a load. Any suggestions?

Thank You.
  • See these instructions. Scroll down to view figure 12 - shows the leaf springs and the piece that should seat into the slide rails:

Pull the pins from the hitch legs.
Roll the hitch forward in the bed.
Spray heavily with WD40 or some other lubircant toward the leaf springs inside the vertical legs

These have to be kept lubricated as they control the "pick" like points that enter the slide rails.

Make sure your hitch slides all the way forward and rearward - may have to do this by positioning the locking handle in the center position so it wont lock forward or rearward and manually slide the hitch front to rear from within the truck bed.

Be sure the rollers are well lubricated too. They are just heavy rolled steel - no bearings - and roll on the slide rails as well.
  • Was it recently installed? If so, make sure the rails are square to each other. If not the slide bars are not true square and it can't hit the holes on both sides at the same time.
  • This summer a guy pulled into a campground and his slider was slamming back and forth while trying to park his 5ver, several folks went over to try and help to no avail, finally after he got parked and set up I went to see what I could do and the pipe that rotates with the 2 lock pins attached was bent on one end and not letting the pins go into the holes straight, took my bottle jack over and straighten it out and worked good as new after that.
