I don't know, but would bet the risk would be similar to a warrantee claim after the manufacture discovers you are running over ratings, you pay the repair bill. Towing, when owner says NO, you might get stuck with the repair.
Then there could be equipment issues in a accident. Does that rental have a brake controller? If not your insurance co would pay the money, but you would do the time.
