rubber roof coating

I have a 2006 Cardinal and I want to put something on the roof to help keep it white, any ideas on what to use and what not to use? Is there something else out there other than DIcor part 1 & 2 that I can use just to help protect it a little longer, still in pretty good shape and want to keep it that way.
  • A few months ago I restored the roof on our 96 Southwind.
I used Eternbond tape and Heng's Rubber Roof Coating.

The Heng's went on easily and did a nice job. I would use it again.
  • If it's an EPDM type roof, you can use a produce called Tropi-cool, which is available at most Home Depot's. Just used it on our 2003 Trail Lite. Worked quite well. Just make sure and clean it very good before you apply.

  • If an EPDM rubber roof, it is highly recommended that you be very careful what you use. Dicor, the rubber roof maker, requires the primer first that the initial poster stated. Liquid Roof has a catalyst included that you mix in the coating before applying. Lowes is carrying a "50 year silicon coating" for rubber roofs. There is a guy here in Yuma, AZ. applying this product. I've looked at several he has done. It puts a great looking coating on the roof. So I am getting ready to do something with that PITA up there. I looked the product up on the inet and in the fine print and download that says "if coating a EPDM roof a different procedure must be used. So I emailed the outfit and there answer was " a primer must be applied before using our coating. We don't have a primer but recommend a Dow product. So I email Dow, "yes that product is the primer but it available only commercially". Now if the RV was permanently parked I would have no trouble using a product that requires no catalyst or primer. But this rig rolls up and down the roads, so I don't want to waste time and money on a product that will peel off. I just hate the thought of tarping the sides of the RV to protect it when hosing the primer off.
  • Another option is one of the RV roof coating companies that advertise in TL.
  • I did the same thing with a 1996 motor home with an EPDM roof. I used a product called Kool Coat which I bought at Camping world. Not sure who makes it. It requires that you wash the roof, then apply a primer, then two coats of Kool Coat. I followed the instructions exactly and it turned out beautifully. Thirteen years later it looked as good as when it was put on. Never peeled or went bad in any way. It dries to a very light blue, or almost white or like the same background as this text box. An added bonus is it stops the black streaking that comes from the EPDM.
  • Look at epdmroofcoatings.com, I coated my roof in October 2016. My 2006 Wildcat, new in June 2005, cam out great. I even was able to store the excess product in the freezer, per manufacture's instructions, and do touchups later. Good tutorials on their web-site. Also do a search on this forum. If you have any questions PM me.
