Sealing my rubber roof

Thinking about sealing my rubber roof with urethanizer. Good idea? Bad idea? Better idea?

X2 a waste of time. My last RV sat outside for 10 years and was fine when I sold it.

  • Eternabond tape and Dicor lap sealant to correct tears and areas that have shrunk away from the original sealant.

  • Lanco does make product lines specified for use on EPDM. Check the tech specs.
  • I would recommend "Duck Coat" or "Liquid Rubber Roof". Used both and satisfied with results.
  • Reasons, it's probably not a good idea.

    1. Urethanizers are water resistant, not water proof. If you have a flat roof, or areas where water may stand for up to fifty hours, the urethanizer will break down, allow water to get under it, and peel off.

    2. If the urethanizer is made by Lanco, their safety data sheet says "Do Not Use On Rubber Roof".

    3. Any sealer made from petroleum distillates, is incompatible with rubber roofing. IE: May cause damage to the roofing material.

Here's a link to Lanco info.
