Selecting an add-a-room?

Hello all,

We have a 27' Sunnybrook 5th, and just got our Dometic awning replaced this fall. We are now looking to purchase an add-a-room for this awning. We have started seasonal camping, so we sit in one place for the whole summer, and would like to keep the bugs off sometimes.

From the brief searching I've done, it seems that the add-a-rooms are fairly generic. Is that right? Doesn't have to be specific to the awning, etc?

We definitely want the option of a full door, NOT a zipper! Would anyone have comments on what model/make to look for?

Do talk to a few more people that have had them before you buy one. They sure are not cheap.

Here's a few of the con's:

CG sites are usually to narrow to use them.

They are a real pain to set up and take down.

Also think about bad weather. You have to be able to disassemble that darn thing quickly or chance loosing your awning during a sudden storm or high winds. Most I have seen trying to get it off and awning up have lost the battle and their awning.

AND the fact that even when you do have ample warning of an impending storm you DO have to disassemble it to get the awing in.

And lastly I have been at some CG's that they won't let the snowbirds put them out. Not many but it only takes the one you want to stay at to negate what you have paid for it.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Much better off to get a freestanding unit.

X 2! We have a Paha Que screen room that works great & more importantly can be setup anywhere. Often there's not enough room on the side or the view is better elsewhere. Seems like it would be easier to seal (bugs & weather) than something attached to the awning.

Just my $0.02...

Bought one for our 5th wheel. Missed the "bug room" on our Titanium after we switched to a Montana. Had to return it because we had the electric awning and the add a room required the manual adjustable awning. Good looking item, seemed to do what it was advertised. Wasn't a lot of trouble to put up after the initial installation. Was able to return it for a full refund as the person on the phone told us it would work on our unit.

Yes I would agree about that for short term camping. We are seasonal campers now, so it's setup in May, and stays until September.

We have a 18'x10' sun shade that slips into the track on our electric awning. We angle it out and use tent stakes to fasten it to the ground. I haven't ran across any actual enclosures or rooms that attach to awnings, but I am sure they probably make them.
