Setting Up Eaz-Lift WD Hitch

I am getting ready for the first outing in our Gearbox 260FS toy hauler and was wondering what the correct height adjustment is on the hitch?. I have a EAZ Lift Elite 1400lb and right now it's setup to where the nose of the trailer is slightly down but not by much. I have it mounted on the 2nd tallest hole on the shank and that is with the spring bars on the 3rd chain link. The bars are parallel with the frame on the trailer when the jack is up
  • I've heard Weekend Warriors had frame issues, what about Gearbox?. Did they use the same frame manufacturer?
  • $450 is pretty good to get back on the road from a frame crack.

I had a local welder come take a look at it and it's the one that holds up the front of the coach. His solution is to raise the front 1/4", clamp the break back together, weld the crack, weld in a extra support crossmember running the width of the front and weld in gussets. $450

    makes sense.

I found that I have bigger problems. The front I beam that runs the width of the trailer has a crack. I am assuming from the previous owner not removing the weight distribution bars while using the RV at Pismo Beach and Glamis.

OOPS! But is that a structural member or one that hold up the front of the coach? The tongue should tie into the frame itself and everything hangs off the frame. Regardless it needs to be fixed and might as well gusset the repair since it has now been compromised.

  • Sounds similar to how mine is set up. Very slightly nose down on trailer. When you pop on the WD bars the truck should settle evenly front and back (i.e. 1/2" drop in the front fender to tire distance and a 1/2" drop in the back fender to tire difference.). Although the trailer can ride level I was told that having it slightly down in front is better than potentially heavy in back. FWIW
  • I do believe they have a video on their web site. I could be wrong because I watched several mfg's videos before buying my Eaz-Lift.

Not having actually seen how much your trailer is tilted, I'd probably take it up one more bolt notch on you hitch since it's available.

  • Did you read the directions? LOL.

Once I did, i realized how badly the RV dealer guy set it up and wanted me to just get down the road.

I ended up with the trailer just ever so slightly down in front, bars level to the ground and front axle 1/2'' higher than with no trailer. Ran over the scales and have good weight on the front axle too.

Compared to the dealership, I lowered my hitch one notch, added a couple washers to the angle and moved the bars to one notch higher setting.

Pulls much much better than my first round coming home from the dealer....dealer basically gave me no front axle weight...
