Snow, Ice, and slide outs?

Look at trying my red neck way ( maybe for an interim period) if the barn does not have a concrete floor.

See how much room you need. if the clearance problem is just at the header of the door - hmmmm, you can cut a couple of trenches in for the wheels to track in until the tallest part of the RV clears the header. It worked for me.

Don't weaken the old barn to much. I just hope it all melts off so I pack mine up. Gotta make a trip to Evansville Sat, slip slidin away. Then I can put the hitch back in the truck.

We got caught in a snow/ice storm couple years ago in N/W New Mexico.

Couple of inches of snow during during the night then just enough sun to melt and turn to ice then repeat for next two days.

Morning we left I had to do the slip and slide on roof with a garden hose to melt the ice off top of slides...........other than landing on my rear end when feet slipped out from under me do problem with slides.

Been in snow storm that dumped 2' of snow.......no problems

Just clear top and seals before retracting......and place a couple of towels under the sides when in to catch any melt/run off.

Safe bet is to retract them when snow/ice storms coming.....IF you can. We FT so slides are out all the time except for travel days.

I would pull them in. Only because it might cause some Ice Damming and allow water to work past the seals. Why play games if you have a choice.

This is so funny! I bought another 5th wheel and I can't put it in the barn till I cut the door out taller. My old hunting 5th is in there, but I broke an ankle the day after I got the new one and am waiting to heal to work on the door height! Good luck on the loft.

You did right to put them in, rather than get them full of snow and ice.

I know the dealers here leave the slides out on many of the new ones on the lot. They don't plan to put them in all winter. They will thaw out, and be sold Spring/early Summer. I am sure they are not concerned, as they do not plan to keep them!!

No problem leaving then out or in as long as you don't change your mind and try to move the slide while it's iced up.

Bring them in...push the button. It only takes a second or two....avoid heavy snow/ice load on them.

One other thing for the OP if you have power available plug the rig in to maintain your on board batteries.

Also I assume you have the rig winterized.

Many years ago, we were in Tunica immediately following an ice storm. For days, all we heard was the sound of scraping/chipping, as RVers tried to remove the ice that was holding their slides out :-( And for what it's worth - it didn't seem to matter if the RV had awnings or not - they all had ice blocking the slides.
