For almost 20 years I have stored my trailers with all slides closed. My new campground neighbor says it's better to keep them out. Never saw anyone do that nor have I ever heard of it. Seems like a bad idea but what do all of you think?

I don't have slides. When I get a unit with slides, I will keep them retracted when not in use.It appears that when the slides are in, there is less surface area exposed to the weather, which should mean there is less chance for leaks. JMO

Store? In for sure. Less chance of leaks or unwanted guests visiting while in storage

I'm no expert. I've always stored with slides in. I have slide covers, and I think extended effects of wind, rain and dirt on the covers would be a negative. I also think the sealing of the trailer is superior with the slides closed (keep out bugs, hornets, etc.)But I DO open the vent in the bathroom (it has an after-market cover; can't think of the brand at the moment) because I think it is important to encourage the inside of the trailer temp to be as similar to the outside as feasible to minimize or eliminate condensation.

Slides in and roof vents open, of course I'm not putting the RV into long-term storage Ike the northerners must do. With slides open it seems the weather cause issues.

We store ours in even when it is set up at a long term site that we go to every other weekend, when we're not there the slide is in. Takes maybe 30 seconds to open/ close it.

Our slides were out almost all summer without hurting anything and they are out now. Just about the way we have done it for the last ten years with no problems.

Mine has had the slides out more than in. I have 2 1/2 acres at home, we keep it hooked up year round ready to go and use as guest suite when needed.
Refrigerator has only been turned off 2 times to defrost, as soon as clean and dry turned back on.
I do not see where it has had any negative impact.

I would never store my RV with the slides out. Bad idea, call the RV mfg and ask them. The hydraulic rams would rust if left out all the time.

Maybe they don't want anyone parking to close to them. My luck someone would back another rig into it. Ah the advantages of storing at home.

We store our Lance in an enclosed garage and we keep the slide out. Never had any problems here in Arizona. A picture of our Lance Home is attached.

In and everything closed up solid. Stays much drier and doesn't fill my two DryZairs as fast.

I posted this same question a couple of weeks ago. Several (7) of the guys who store their rigs where mine is at all store them with the slides open. I have not seen anyone out there to ask them but I will when I see one. I can't understand the reason to store with the slides out, I dont get it!
