summer-Time Sleep Mode

Hello Everyone. Returned sometime in July from my first so.o trip, a Wild West tour that was just wonderful, did some work-camping and am now settling in until early spring when I'll go cross-country through states southwest.

For today though, can you please give me some tips as to how to protect my rig these long months? Should all drawers/Refrig stay open? Some have said I should either keep the AC/Refrig on at least once a month, some say every day.

How do I keep the bugs/ants out? I've got wheel covers to put on and it's closed up tight. But in Florida I'm afraid of must and mold"

Lastly, what is the co census of care for the toilet? Water full or empty, pine-sol OK?

appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks so much!

Beth
  • I too prop the fridge open and put a couple mouse traps in the trailer. I put one in living area and one in cargo space. Be sure to take all food out, clean the trailer and wash the bedding.

I haven't gotten any bugs, but I think spraying the landing gear and such with bug killer is a good idea....mine sits in our garage when not being used, but still could get em.

I've heard run the genny with a decent load once a month. Something about keeping the moisture out of it. I don't think its as big a deal here in Colorado as it would be in a humid climate like FL. A decent load would be your A/C, so run it too once a month. Daily would be overkill.

I have a battery tender that I often hook ours up to in order to keep the batteries charged. Its not just a charger...its a Battery Tender.

I flush our waste tanks before storage and put in a few gallons of water and the normal tank treatment. In the winter, I add RV antifreeze and of course I winterize the rig.

I try to move mine a couple times each winter to hopefully help prevent tire problems.
  • We keep our fridge/freezer doors open to prevent mold. We also keep both roof vents open, they are covered, and two vent windows cracked open so that air can circulate freely. For bugs I spray Ortho liquid Pest control on the landing pads, springs and axles. I also set two mouse traps inside just in case we get a visitor. In two years have not seen so much as an ant and no mold or musty smells. I do go out every weekend and check everything out and wash the outside once a month.
