Sun screem added to awning

We have one that slides into the groove in the roller. but honestly haven't tried to roll it up. Looks to me like it would make it too bulky

Note the small photo by RV Shades. They do not specifically show an order option for the awning shade, so I contacted them. The response was that they sell the material and snaps to be cut for window applications, but there was no reason it could not be attached to the awning roller. We measured for the width of our roller and figured the length that we wanted for height and ordered. It came with a large number of snaps. We followed the instructions and added the snaps every foot across the metal roller with the awning extended. The shade screen cannot be left attached to roll up due to the thickness, but it is easy to snap and unsnap for use and storage using the included tool. There were plenty of extra snaps and we placed a spare cap on each of the installed parts and added a felt sticky to provide a smooth surface that would not damage the awning when it rolls up on the roller. The bottom can be secured to an anchor or stake if windy. We are pleased with the function and appearance. The rolled screen is relatively easy to store when rolled side to side leaving the vertical dimension as the length of the roll to store.

No it should not be rolled up in awning.

They sell rubbber slide in tabs with hooks on them, sold at any camping store. They slide into the groove in the awning tube. The hook attaches to the grommet holes in the sun shade. The tabs need to be taken out also before rolling up awning. IMHO Fabric ones are better than the plastic ones for hanging a sun shade lays downward flatter.

My problem is the extended awning is about 10 feet above the ground, I was hoping I could roll the screen up with the awning and secure it when it was extended to the ground with rope or straps.

I tried to roll mine up 8 foot wide by 14 feet long(don't know brand) and with sun shade on makes it to big to roll up. Everything is fine till about last couple feet. Sun shade makes diameter to big and won't clear to roll up all the way. If that makes since the way I'm describing it.

Maybe others have found a different way or material?

Seen many people use rope or straps or other means but sometime you are going to come across a place that won't allow putting in stakes and raise a fit because somebody will think its a clothes line etc.

I like to use our 3 gallon drinking water jugs as weight secured to handle of jug and sun shade with little bungee cord. Bungee cord allows some little gusts of wind to absorb some of the force of wind.

The first time we hear the little clunk of jug blopping back into place from getting lifted, it's time to take it down and retract awning. (Meaning one edge lifted maybe an inch or two)

Seems to work great for us. Biggest hassle to me is folding ours up.

I ditched those heavy sun shades because of how bulky they are to store.

I switched to the sun shade material found at Lowes. Buy it buy the length, add grommets. It will fold up into a 12 inch square if you want it to and is only about an inch thick folded. Comes in a varied selection of colors thar look REAL nice. IMHO better looking than a dark and/or black heavy shade.

I also bought a 40 ft long piece of it and use it as patio mat outside the entire length of the MH. You don't slip on it when its wet like the patio mats. Again folds up flat taking up no more than the size of a laptop in the bay. Can't say that about those huge bulky patio mats!!:B

I've been using a 15' x 6' Dometic Patty O'Shade and rolling it up with our 19' awning. This shade has no grommets or clips. It just has a tube sewn into the top that slides into the awning track.

The awning rolls up just fine, but I wouldn't leave the shade rolled up in the awning for long periods of time.

Bought it at Camping World.
