Anyone use a swivelwheel ,Joetrailer, or other towed behind your 5r to haul a cycle or quad? What is your experience with them?
Two issues. Legality in where you want to tow. Home-state regs don't apply in states where they may not be legal.
Second is that they =can=, very rarely, cause handling issues by unweighting the pin too much. Was discussing this with a local trailer/hitch shop and he took one off a customer's FW after it started towing very poorly after the swivel-wheel was added. Not saying that it wasn't the way it was loaded, but I was told that the customer tried several different configurations to change the way it was loaded and all gave about the same problem. That's the =only= anecdote that I've heard about this issue, but it is something to be aware of.
Lyle - fj12ryderExplorer IIIThey work very well. I pulled one behind my 5th wheel for several years in states that say they don't allow double towing and was never stopped. But that doesn't mean you won't be. Personally I think you're less likely to be pulled over with a swivelwheel type trailer than a conventional trailer behind your 5th wheel. I pulled a Smart Trailer and was very happy with the construction and performance.
They have a lot of tongue weight so make sure your frame will handle the stress, and the shop you have fabricate the hitch knows what they are doing. The length of the swivelwheel trailer will be added to the swing of the rear end so it must be taken into account when maneuvering. - Not legal in some states. Here in Washington they are considered a trailer.
