Not that I would condone this with a SUV but thought the concept & execution was excellent.tow it
I've seen one. Neat hitch. Gives you 2 extra tires for braking and helps extra-long FWs track better in a turn, since it kicks the pin out further.

Except lose the advantage 5'ers have with lack of sway over TT.
Not according the gentleman I talked to who was towing a huge Alfa Gold with an F350 with a Razr on the truck bed and 60 gallons of fresh water and 50 gallons of diesel in tanks under the platform the Razr was on. I think that most of you don't realize that the dolly is attached to the TV at 3 points; the receiver hitch, as well as 2 other receivers bolted to the TV's frame. It transfers very little weight to the TV. They are no different that a swivel-wheel platform in attachment.

Sort of an apples and oranges comparison between this kluge and a FedEx tractor pulling wiggle wagons, isn't it?
No not at all. However I would say a system like the the automated safety hitch system eliminates wiggle.
The first hitch (as many states require on non-commercial doubles) on the FedEx tractor to the 1st trailer is a 5th wheel hitch, not a receiver/ball hitch, IF the dolly is considered to be a trailer.
Not necessarily. Depends on the dolly.
The big rig tow dollies use a pintle hitch, right?
Pintle and 5th wheel.
Your assuming all big rig dollies are the same which they are not. Now it might be true FedEx uses a certain dolly.
Any how my point was just what I said ;
** We think nothing of the trucking industry using several types of tow dollies to make up a A train/etc on our highways.** - recyclerExplorerInteresting use of an OBS superduty front axle. Was going to build a tandem axle device similiar to that to tow my brother's Cougar 5'er behind my truck camper ladden F550 before I turned it into a truck conversion motorhome. Long as the tv had heavy enough hitch and driver is capable of pulling 5'er.
- SuperiorBoundExplorerI am with the why group. I don't understand why I would have a 5th wheel if I didn't have the vehicle to tow it. If I had the truck and trailer but was replacing the truck wouldn't I just get another truck? Maybe I am just too practical, I went with a small teardrop since I drive a VW Beetle. Now I keep it cause I love it
- valhalla360NavigatorMay get you in trouble in some states for double towing but as others have said...why?
The advantage of a 5th wheel is the stability that comes from planting the pin weight over the rear axle. If you don't want a pickup, just get a bumper pull trailer. - jjjExplorerNeat concept if done properly but they are so darn ugly.
- TerryallanExplorer IIMy question is still. Why?

RV websites are a great source of amusing opinions/silly comments about trucking issues even where tow dollies are concerned.

If you're going to do it, do it right!!!
I see a lot of pickup trucks towing trailers that look like the SUV. Rear end squatting, front up in the air.
