I am atarting to search for a used toy hauler for my mom and dad and I come to you guys for advice... First they are looking for a used 2003-2006ish 30 or so foot travel trailer style toy hauler. So now on to the questions

1. In what ball park will something like that weigh I haven't found a certain model to look at yet just wondering a ballpark number and do they make lite versions like the tts

2. Tounge weight is it about the same as what a normal Tt would be and does loading the garage change the tounge weight a lot?

3. They will be hauling a gold wing trike is that to much weight to put in it is there a weight limit in the garage

4. The tow truck will they deffently need a 2500 I know my dad likes my truck and is thinking about that 2014 gmc 1760 payload and 9600 max tow it's handles my 30ft Tt just fine but a loaded toy hauler I don't know

Thanks for reading!

i am with Lincster as well. My ragen fsc2800 was very well built but because of that she was pretty heavy. I towed with a 08 chevy 2500 on bags and though it towed ok, my dually towed it better. Course that's overkill. 🙂

I agree with Lincster. My portly 22' toy hauler was 7500 lbs dry and 11,500 lbs when fully loaded. My tongue weight was 1000 lbs empty and 1200 lbs when fully loaded with water, fuel and toys.

Dreenn I was going to reply but honestly the post that lincster took the time to type out is so spot on I will just say 'ditto' its spot on about the weights, the hitch weights and type of truck needed.

I owned a Weekend Warrior FS3000. 30' box, 34' overall length.
I put mine on a CAT scale both loaded and unloaded and I measured my tongue weight with a Sherline Tongue weight scale. So I have real life weights.

Trailer with no toys and no water, 2 6V batteries, full propane and normal camping stuff, weight 9000lbs with 1400lbs of tongue weight.

Tongue weight on these are much higher than a normal travel trailer. You should be running a true Class V hitch, like a Reese Tow Beast or similar.

Trailer will 4 quads, full water and 40gallons of gas in it weighed 12,000lbs with 1400lbs of tongue weight.

Trailer with a 2000lb sand rail in it, full water and 40 gallons of gas in it, weighed 13,000lbs with 1500lbs of tongue weight.

Tongue weight with full water and no toys in the back was 1700lbs.

So, as you can see, putting a gold wing in it is no big deal, I put much more weight in it than a gold wing.

Tongue weight on these are very high, so plan accordingly.

You definetly need a 2500. Actually you need a 3500 with the tongue weight.
With a crew cab, 4WD 2500, you will go over the GVWR of the truck when hooked up due to the high tongue weight.

Don't listen to the dude telling you that you can tow this with a SUV..... wow.... that is the tail wagging the dog there.

It will probably be 4000-6000lbs dry. I had a 29 foot toy hauler and it was supposed to be 5000 dry. tongue weight isn't going to be the same I find on toy haulers it seems to be heavier by 10 - 20 percent. This made it really hard when I was shopping because I had an SUV. I would haul as many as 6 dirt bikes or 3 roadbikes in mine sometimes with 90 gallons of water if there wasn't any where I was going. I don't know whether you need a 2500 you might. My friend had a chevy 2500 and complained about power and his rear axel sagged. He had an older chevy though but his toy hauler was half the size of mine. I had a new mercedes suv with a twin turbo v8 and auto leveling suspension. I had no sag tons of power and could stop on a dime. I also used a weight distribution hitch.
