traveling to the northeast

We are going to be traveling to the northeast in Sept. Would like to know some of the campgrounds you stayed in Maine, New York. We would like to see New York City, but do not want to stay close. Would rather take the train or bus to the city. Has anyone ever done this.
Thanks for any information.
  • Red Apple campground. Just outside Kennebunkport ME. Order your lobster at the front office by 10:00 a.m. He will deliver them to your campsite in a 53 Ford steamed and ready to eat. Loved staying there. Just a great R.V. Park with great owners.
  • Stayed at the Pumpkin Patch in Hermon, Maine... just a short distance from Bangor. Was able to day trip to a lot of places from there.
  • Hi, the Newburgh NY KOA offers bus tours to NYC. It's north of NYC just off of the New York State Throughway.
