I'm considering purchasing a 5th wheel to replace my Class A. It would be a full-timer rig, so it won't be hauled a lot. But I'd end up using the truck as a daily driver, or mostly so. Looking to get a 1-ton, as I'm looking for a more comfy 5er, which means bigger. So, would a rear end with single wheels do OK, or is that a real no no, and should I go duallie?

It all depends on the total weight and loaded pin weight of the 5er and the tow rating and payload rating of the truck. Payload ratings of pickups have increased a lot over the years. And an SRW can adequately and safely tow a large 5er. But at some point the pin weight will dictate a DRW. Do your homework and check trailer and truck numbers carefully. An SRW tows a 5er very well and stable if the numbers are right. But a DRW is needed if the weight gets too heavy.

Buy or select the TT or 5er first then match a TV to it. May be SRW and may not.

Get the specs for the trailer you want first....unless you are simply trying to justify getting a dually...then follow the advice of the people who tell you to get a dually if you are pulling a pop up.
