TX RV and trailer owners are in trouble.

Georgia did that years ago. Turned into such a fiasco that they gave it up. Done right, it was a good thing. Kept a lot of "accidents waiting to happen" off the road, but it got abused by the operators and was abandoned quite a few years ago. Some counties still require "emmissions" testing, but not all.

WY is changing the way they license TTs. Weight instead of value.

We always had to do it here, in Virginia. It's really not a bad idea considering how many people don't maintain their trailers -- mainly the construction-type, junk haulers and landscapers.

North Carolina has long required inspection of trailers with GWR of 4000 lbs or greater.

Every couple of years, our state legislature introduces a bill to repeal the inspection requirements.

I think vehicle inspection requirement is a good idea. According the AAA, "In states that still have the mandated inspections, as opposed to those that don't, accidents are about 27 percent less,"

In NC, I don't see how one can argue that the inspection requirement is a state money grab. The state get $0.85 for a vehicle inspection; the inspection station receives $12.75. The state's 85¢ is distributed as follows: 55¢ to highway fund, 18¢ to Volunteer Rescue/EMS Fund, 12¢ to Rescue Squad Workers' Relief Fund.

There is a different fee structure if an emission test is required but, in NC, motorhomes (and trailers, of course) are exempt from the emission requirement.

Bought a new Starcraft from a dealer in Denver on March 6th and drove it home to west tx. They charged me Texas state and county taxes and had be sign Texas paperwork. I wonder if they're going to require an inspection before sending plates?

Yes, when you go to get plates they will know if the inspection has been done. It is done electronically.

Where does the rest of the money go?

In CT we have emissions tests but no inspection on a car or trailer unless over 10 years old and then only on the first registration. Once you get plates on it you good until you get stopped and the ticket says inspection required.

The inspection law has been on the book in Texas for years. The new law makes it more enforceable and eliminates the need for inspection sticker. Since I follow the law it's not a problem for me. Hopefully it will get some unsafe vehicles off the road and at least put a dent in the underground market for bogus stickers and other documents.
