Morning all. We are fulltimers and rarely stay in one state more than 6 months in the winter and 1 month in the summer. We have our domicile at South Dakota. We do not qualify for medicare or medicade. Our current insurance which we pay, is set up that we can visit any doctor in any state. My concern is, if we register in SD, can we get care in say SC, FL, AZ, TX, etc. I was reading about the marketplaces and it didn't seem clear. It sortof read in emergency situations. So I thought I would put this out on the forum and see what your opinons are for fulltimers. Thanks for the info.

My answer is very simple-they should have opened up Medicare for all people. Dump all the insurance companies and give all the doctors and health care workers a raise.

Many who are being notified are because the plans they are on don't meet minimum coverages of the ACA. So basically they had lousy plans.

Not true. We carried two plans. One for my wife providing maternity coverage and one for my son and I without maternity. The wonderful plan you reference requires me and my son to carry maternity coverage along with a list of other coverages we do not need.

To the op... it may be time to pick a different domicile state. SD, ND and many of the less populated states are experiencing the biggest sticker shock on this.

As a young family and as a sole proprietor I have seen our insurance premiums increase 200% since Obamacare passed. We just received notice that our BC and BS plans are cancelled effective Jan 1. Price shopping new plans the best comparable plan is an additional 50% more!

Poster mentioning young people just paying the fine and risking it... they will do just that. What is humorous about this entire ACA thing is "can anyone tell me how a person who requires government assistance to buy health insurance is ever going to pay a 6-12k deductible?" And in case you were not aware a "deductible" is monies due and if not paid will get sent to collections.

ACA is not "healthcare" it is government mandating private citizens entering into a contract.

ACA is here to stay in some shape or form. The nice thing for us older ones with major health issues the 20-40 year old group will pay much more than before so we can play less than before. I doubt if our current mess is actually related to ACA by more than 10% but is mainly posturing for the debt ceiling debate in a couple weeks. It makes we sick that we have to borrow every month to pay for the rent we are already be on.

And like Social Security who will be around carry the water when the now young group is old and ill?

All that means is that they have changed insurance since 2010 when the law was signed. All plans in place then were grandfathered in. However, if you changed plans (which often happens with people who have individual policies and take a job/leave a job get an individual policy) since 2010 and the policy is not ACA compliant then that insurance company can bring that policy into compliance or cancel it. So what you are seeing are companies who choose not to bring the policies into compliance since most have policies offered on the exchanges that are in compliance. The grandfather clause was discussed in September of 2010 by Senator Mike Enzi on a lot of news channels.

If you are happy with your current insurance plan why not just keep it? I got a letter from my insurance co stating that since I already had coverage I did not need to change it unless I elect to do so.
If your plan is grandfathered is your coverage grandfathered? Lifetime cap? I would check that out. The ACA stops the insurance companies on new policies from cancelling you so you don't have to go bankrupt because of an illness. Medical bankruptcies have been clogging our courts for years. I just don't get it why people have not followed this law. Young people can pay the penalty and not get insurance but they will go bankrupt if they become very sick or have an accident because you only have open enrollment for a certain period of time-you cannot just apply anytime you feel like it. The collectors will come for the money owed if you do not have insurance-believe it.

From what I understand, if you're income is between $11,490 and $45,690 and your employer health insurance premium is deemed unaffordable, meaning your premium takes more than 9.5% of your income or plan covers less than 60% of total allowed medical costs, you can use the health exchange to find another plan and in most cases you will be eligible for a subsidy. Go to healthcare.gov, it does a pretty good job of explaining a lot of the questions we all have.

My husband rec'ed a letter from bluecross, since his plan was obtained after march 2010, his plan began june 2010, as of dec 30, 2014 his plan is cancelled, not an option to keep it. i have been looking at new plans in our area and now he pays 266.00 premium annual 500, out of pocket 1500. i've not found anything close to that. plans i'm seeing triple that. and yes as to a earlier post my wk plan meets the aca so i can not go on any other plan. so far for us the aca is not good for us.

"Total out of pocket" is not the same as "deductible." There is no ACA compliant plan that doesn't "pay a dime" until the policy holder has spent $13,000.
Don't exactly know what you are referencing. I looked at the plans available under the Montana exchange and for the two of us, the silver plans run about $1100 per month, plus have a $3250 deductible before hitting the co-pay benefits. That means putting out over $16,000 per year before benefit 1. Our current BCBS plan is cheaper with better coverage, but might be discontinued. If so, we would have to look to take on an exchange plan and pay more for less. Wonderful system. BTW, I have been trying since the exchange went live to enter an application to see if we will qualify for a subsidy, or if I can create a small business plan that will be cheaper than my individual plan and I cannot find a way to get past the "we are busy and will transfer you as soon as possible, don't log out or you will lose your place in line" page. I left it up for two hours last night, from 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM Mountain time, and never got transferred. Called the help number and got a message saying they servers are overloaded, it is a known problem, and they are supposedly working on it. Hasn't inspired a lot of confidence to me.
