I suspect that if a person has a very active mind, and is not particularly social, full timing might be a challenge. People with very active minds do not care much for "make work" jobs and hobbies. They crave accomplishment and challenging or physically active hobbies which allow measurement of accomplishment. Such as how did you golf, how far did you run today, did you find any gold in the desert, etc. But if they are sociable, they can get some mental satisfaction by being with people.
Actually, very actives minds are seldom bored because they can always think of things to do, places to see, that others will rarely find.
As to being social, we don't go out of our way to avoid people, but find that we love doing our things, our way. We spent so many years having to do cocktail/receptions/dinners/events, all along with the requisite small talk and plugs for whatever program we were raising money for, that not having to 'glad-hand' has been really a treat for us. Plus, our politics are very progressive, so we just find it easier to just do our own things. Never have had to have others' validation to feel good about ourselves.
