Full time/South Dakota insurance question.

Considering changing domicile to South Dakota. We both are on Medicare. Another posting about ins saying insurance is unavailable for full timers concerns me. Is it true? Will we be able to get a medicare supplemental insurance??? Seems odd that you couldn't!!!

I believe the problems are with the PPO network supplemental plans. A regular supplement policy should be good anywhere you use it. It's based on what medicare pays and the deductibles on the medicare policy. Not limited to only certain doctors/ hospitals or areas.

United Health Care (AARP) Medicare supplemental policies are sold in SD and are good all over the US. That is what we used until we stopped full timing about three years ago.

not true fulltimer, as dutch stated the problem is with some supplemental plans haveing in network not available in some areas.

Long time ago I was concerned about the same thing. Then I called my BCBS supplement insurer and found that they didn't care one whit what state I now live in. Have changed home states twice more since then and my supplement is still issued through the plan 3 states back. Not sure if that's the same with all supplements but am happy it is with mine. The same plan in S. FL would be twice the price. Call the issuer of your current plan and ask them if you move to another state, can you keep your current plan/policy/pricing.

I think they are talking about folks that are NOT yet on medicare having those issues. Once on Medicare, I don't there is an issue with the supliments.

I think the term "unavailable" is not a correct definition about the availability of health insurance in SD for RVing folks.

I am retired and I am on Medicare and a supplemental PPO insurance policy so it is possible. But I do feel very fortunate after hearing about some of the problems some folks do have (reading here and other forums).
