Furnace usage

Out here in Quartzsite AZ and had to fire up the furnace for the 1st time. I want to install an extend-a-stay type connection so I can use a larger tank but DON'T want to use the furnaces due to them being horribly inefficient both on propane and 12VDC.
What heater have you other full-time RV'ers been using and are you satisfied? Next door neighbor suggested a "Blue Flame" but I guess I'll do some googling tonight.

There are modern versions of a gravity furnace like used in my folks trailer. Very quiet due to no fan but slower to heat the space and likely less efficient because of it too.

2oldman, all I can tell you, as I wasn't there, is that is what was said at the time. They said the room they were sleeping in was closed up as air tight as they could get it, and they all died. It was mid Missouri in the coldest of winter and for some reason or other they had lost their heat source. All I know is, I am very careful with space heaters. Take it as you please. I just know I lost someone who was a very dear school friend.
No Oxygen depletion or Carbon Monoxide is created by electric heater or heat pump.

Will DEFINITELY keep a window cracked as well as a roof vent. As you all know these rigs are not air tight. We have a full wall slide as well as propane leak detector as well as a smoke detector AND a carbon monoxide detector that are tested on a regular basis. Also the ventless propane heaters sold these days MUST have oxygen depletion sensors.

It likely could not have been an electric space heater, unless it started a fire. It was most likely a portable propane heater for which there are many cases of CO fatalities every year.

I didn't know electric heaters used oxygen.

I know what I have to tell you is not about an RV. But years ago I lost an old high school friend because she and her husband and two children were using a portable electric heater for heat. Apparently all the oxygen in the room was used up while they were sleeping and the 4 of them died. So, if this is what you are doing, please crack a window near that heater. I don't want to read about any of you or see about you on the television news.

Note what the manufacturer says:
Not for use in bathrooms, bedrooms, or recreational vehicles. 4,500ft high altitude restriction. Propane cylinder must remain outdoors.

Thanks for your concern EsoxLucius, I did see that thanks.

I would recommend a vented catalytic propane heater. No CO or CO2, or moisture problems.

We used a Olympian propane heater for the last 25 years in our pop-up.
Dead silent and no electricity needed.
Needs ventilation because of oxygen usage and humidity control.
Pop-ups already have lot of ventilation.

Haven't tried in our new class C yet.
Sure you would need to let some of the moisture escape.

Wonder how much more efficient the ventless propane heater would be since you would have to have some windows open. 12 VDC conservation would be king with these heaters.

We used the Empire propane heater for 16 full-timing years with lots of boondocking (Quartzsite, too) - and even if we were plugged into electric at a RV park.

The RV furnace is inefficient, noisy and cycles on and off with heat and cold.

The propane heaters give a constant warm heat. They are awesome!

They are used by many, many full-timers.

Thankyou 2gypsies!!!!

Found this interesting article.

Also note how regulated such heaters are. They now MUST have automatic low oxygen shutoffs. We all know how air tight these RV's with slides are.....NOT!! LOL
