Mail?

We are planning to go full time, and I will have several questions. One that comes to mind is how to get my mail if I am constantly moving every week or so. Any ideas?

First thing, we would never ask a friend or relative to babysit our mail. Believe it or not, it is a real PITA for the folks! OK for very short term. This being our 14th year of fulltiming, we have used Escapees since day 1. Very easy to use, no problems. And just how much mail do you intend on receiving? We pay bills, banking etc. online. Deep-sixed magazines years ago. During the winter when we are in Arizona we get mail every two weeks. Traveling in the summer, once a month.

The best option is to get all of your correspondence by Internet and that's basically free. I have also used a virtual mailbox for about $10 per month. With one of those you change your address to their mailbox, they receive your letters, they scan the envelope and you can see it online, then you tell them if you want them to open it and scan it online where you can see it (which is no extra charge) or you can forward it to where you are for a few dollars extra.

I joined Escapees right from the start. Been full-timing now for almost 3 year. I signed up for there mail service 2 months before I when on the road. Most of banking is done online. As of right now I have my mail sent to me wherever I'm at about once a month.

Vehicle registration, Insurance & Drivers License Renewals. I have sent to my Son's house where I maintain my Domicile residence. And he forwards them to me wherever I'm at. Meds, I choose Walmart, because there stores are just about everywhere. And so far that has worked well.

There is a reason that Fl, SD, and TX are picked by most fulltimers for their domicile. Not only no state income taxes, but all three states have good mail forwarding companies that catered to RVers. We have used Escapees in Livingston, TX for 11 years and couldn't be happier. We get mail sent about every month (usually when we've ordered meds), most everything really important is done online. Having a company that understands RVers is a definite plus.

Get a mail forwarding service. Then have your mail sent to "general delivery" of the town you will be in Plan ahead, it is no problem.

First step is to pick a mail forwarding service. I recommend implementing that service weeks or months in advance. Notify all your banks, financial institutions, and everyone else you can think of. Be sure to file the change of address using the IRS form 8822. Do not rely on the US postal service to forward your mail to your new address. That is a haphazard unreliable manual process that often fails.

The second step is to try to eliminate all snail mail. Set everything up electronically with financial institutions. You should be able to eliminate almost all mail. To actually receive your mail, you will need to remain in the same location for several days. Check with the local post office to be sure they handle general delivery and then arrange a shipment from your mail forwarding service. For the first year, I made arrangements for forwarding every month or so. Later on I often waited several months for forwarding.

we have 2 the UPS store for Indiana and "my dakota address" for our domicile state, they both will send the mail to any address I need them to. I call when we need mail and I am fortunate as they will go through it with me so I don't get any unwanted mail and have to pay extra postage.
Escapees club also offers mail forwarding services

When we went full time we changed our address to that of our daughter.
She sorts our mail, discards the junk and sends the rest to us as we see the need. We get very little important mail. All bills and bank transactions are handled over the internet. If something need fast attention, she will scan and send it via email.
