Stacked Washer/Dryer

We have recently sold the SnB and will be Fulltimers soon. We are purchasing a new 5er with W/D hookups and have decided we want to use it. We will be going with a stacked unit. I have been looking at the small apartment stacked units but the extra 50lbs seems a bit much...however I can't seem to find comparable pricing on an "rv" set. The apartment set is less than a grand yet the "rv" ones are in the $1500 range. Has anyone found them cheaper?

Thanx

No rewire required if the is a 50 Amp service in the RV and pre-wire for the dryer was done properly. Our 28' Sears W & 220vac vented D work just fine.
  • We full time and have a stackable Whirlpool. The units work well however Whirlpool customer service is terrible. The units are 24" and fit through the door with no issue. I know because we had to have the washer replaced. My dryer is 120v. They make 220v models you may not find these convenient to use with the power draw. Our dryer is 120v and it takes maybe 40 minutes to dry a normal load of clothes. The machines do smaller loads then machines you may have had at your S&B. The weight of the machines should not be an issue. Everything you add will add weight just have the right truck. Good luck

  • Two very significant variables:

    1. Inside or outside vent for dryer. IMHO the outside venting is preferable.
    2. 240VAC or 120VAC dryer. The 240VAC is also preferable in my opinion.
  • I've heard that the Sears stackable that runs on propane is a good choice for RV's. Takes very little PP and dries cloths much faster than the electric only models.
I would not worry about 50# here or there. That's an insignificant amount of weight in the scheme of things.
  • Sears or Whirlpool has 24" wide stacks, which is what you will need in an RV. Getting it in thru the door is the issue. Check prices.

  • We purchased ours from a gentlemen in IN. It is the Splendid. We truly love ours do to the size of loads. There are 2 RV surplus outlets in Elkhart IN. I do remember last year they had previous years models.
Ensure, you split the AC hookup, Leg A and B. if you have 50 amp service
  • Check area craigslist and call some of the local RV dealers. I know some folks take their out for the storage space especially if they are not fulltimers. Other dealers get them in and the buyer doesn't want it. I have seen them on craigslist for 500 bucks.
