Hi everybody - This is my first year of full-timing so that means I'm learning a few things. One of them is that I find I like going to a CG or resort and staying for a week instead of only a few days (DUH !). I guess it took a while to realize that I don't HAVE to travel every day (even though I love driving).So now that I've found out how nice it is to stay someplace for a week at a time, I'm wondering about even longer stays. Like for 2-4 weeks. So next year I would like to try staying in one place for longer periods of time as long as there are interesting things to do and interesting sights to see ! Or maybe because it's just a nice place. For those of you who stay in one place for longer periods of time, I'd like ask where your favorite places are. I don't care if they are public CGs or private. And I don't care what state they are in. This is wide open. Just to be clear, I'm not asking about places to stay for the winter. I was in a great place last winter in Florida and I have reservations in the Phoenix area starting 1 Nov so I'm OK for places to stay during the cold months. I'm more interested in finding places to stay long term next year. I do belong to Escapees so I know about their parks.I'll be heading into California, the Pacific NW and also Idaho and Montana during 2015 but I'm also thinking future long term planning too so if you have a favorite place in other parts of the country I'd really like to hear about it too. If it matters, I pull a 35 ft 5th wheel.Any suggestions ?Thanks much,Tim

Why don't you try camp hosting for a month at a state park?We camphost in Virginia for 2 months and in Maryland for 1 month. The duties are completely different...in Va, we are required to be there 5 days a week with 2 days off. (It's close to our home, so we just go home on our off days). In MD, you are only required to be there on the weekends and must do 20 hours per week per camping unit. There are 4 of us, so that's only 5 hours of work per week. PM me if you would like to have the info about MD. It's a great gig and there is lots and lots to do within a 2 hr drive of the campground.

Well if you are going to Phoenix for the winter I suggest you look at National Parks Service camp grounds at the Tonto National Forest specially around Roosevelt Lake some beautiful Campgrounds around there.Or park on the beach on the Bolivar peninsula near Galveston, Tx

Anywhere along the Oregon Coast. Try 2 weeks southern coast, 2 weeks mid-coast, 2 weeks northern coast.

Well, I guess I'm not making this clear.I know about the Oregon coast (101 is a favorite) and I even know about "In a private campground" (I'm in one right now). I'm asking for the names of specific campgrounds/resorts (public or private) that you like well enough to stay in for a couple of weeks.

Currently, we don't get to choose our locations. That has it's good and bad points. Good is we stay cheaper at monthly rates and have plenty of time to take as many day trips and we can.

Depending on the Season, I can always find something interesting to see. So it really depends on what interests you. Beach, Mountains, Farmland, National Parks, Wineries, Genealogy, History (Civil War, Indian, Government)- Pick a theme. The RV Park conditions don't matter quite as much, since you'll be out and about enjoying yourself.

As another ex., DH was working in MD, so spent Labor Day weekend in DC going to every Free Smithsonian and Monument we had the energy for, took a Duck boat ride on the Potomac with our GD, had brunch in Annapolis overlooking the docks, then went to Hershey's RV Show, drove over to Rehoboth Beach, DE to visit DH's family cemetery all while at Cherry Hill Park in College Park.

Another ex., at Sundermeier RV Park in MO, drove to Lincoln Library and Museum in Springfield, IL, went to St Louis Zoo which was Free, toured Mark Twain's town of Hannibal and met DH's cousins in Hermann, MO to do some wine and brew tasting.

While in NE OH, we drove up to Niagara Falls and met an old school mate of mine that had reconnected with me through FB. Ironically, she just past away two weeks ago and without being full time, we never could have caught up on Life histories.

Willow Wind RV Park in Hurricane, UT is a very quiet, clean park and close to Zion NP and Bryce Canyon. We stayed there for a month this past June...the weather was quite warm. Overall a nice place with plenty of amenities nearby. Also, the monthly rate is reasonable.

Point Lookout State Park, MD. It is located where the Potomac runs into the Chesapeake Bay, so you have best of both worlds.

It is less than 2 hours into DC, Baltimore and Annapolis. The Atlantic is about 1 1/2 hrs away (Ocean City, MD; Rehobeth Beach, DE or Chincoteague).

During the winter we spend two or three weeks at Sumter Oaks, an Escapees RV Club owned park near Bushnell, FL. After that, we usually spend a couple of weeks each at a few Florida state parks, sometimes interspersed with a few days at private parks to coordinate reservation availability. Then we slowly start north, spending a couple of days to a week at various parks along the way as weather warms up. I highly recommend the Alafia River, Lake Luisa, and Myakka River State Parks in Florida. Many state and national parks have a 14 night limit, ruling out longer stays in any one park.

Here is where I have been spending my summers:

Seasonal camping from mid April to mid October @ $23.00/night.

When we were touring the Pacific coast last year, we were looking for places we might like to come back to for at least a month. These places had to have 50 amp full hookups, be near shopping, etc. and have reasonable monthly rates. We found two: Pacific Pines RV Park in Florence, OR and Devil's Lake RV Park in Lincoln City, OR. Florence can get a little windy but that was the only downside we saw in it. Both campgrounds had wonderful owners/hosts and we enjoyed our week stays very much. There are many more places others can comment on but these filled our needs.

Pueblo El Mirage in the Phoenix area in the winter months. Beautiful park, 18 hole golf course and lots of other activities. On Hilton Head Island there are two parks. A wonderful place to explore for a few weeks.
