1992 itasca sunrise 454 operating temp

Ok this was first trip I took in super hot conditions . I was watching all gauges . Temp gauge ran from about 180f to brief times going up hill
passing to 210f it never went passed 210f . It has a 15 lb cap on radiator . I did not use front air conditioner at all while driving as it needs a recharge. Is this normal temp for the 454 ? To me its a strong running 454 for 12,300 lbs when you call for 454 gods you get some serious thunder action :) temp outside ran from 93f to 85f about 80% humidity. My average speed 60mph to 70mph . coach air conditioner ran 4 days straight when parked so that's working great :) any info be great .

  • Sounds like a normal temp range. My 93 Kountry Star was about the same.

What temp thermostat do you have? If 195 F that is very normal. If 180 F it should be lower. Also if you are using the dash gauge it may be off. When I replaced my sensor for the gauge I noticed a 15 degree difference between the old and new.
  • Mine ran about the same or a little higher and thats probably why it was hard on exhaust manifolds. Had to replace them couple times. Strong engine.
  • Also take into consideration that factory gauges are not that accurate. What you're looking for is the normal range, regardless of temps. Anything above normal is an issue.
