1998 Fleetwood Bounder - Ford v-10 - Fuel Pump?

Ok, I was not able to find any leaks with the WD 40 trick.

I did borrow a vacuum pump from a buddy as well as a vacuum gauge.

The vacuum pump held true on the EGR Valve and I also heard the EGR valve return once the pump was pulled off the valve. So, I think the EGR valve is good. I check the PVC Valve and that seems ok, I can hear it rattle when shook and I see no cracks or anything of concern.

The odd part, It seems to idle smoother without the vacuum hose connected on the top of the EGR Valve. Does this Indicate anything?

Will SeaFoam help to fix the Vacuum leak or is that just for the Gen issue?

Also, with the WD-40 Trick is there a diagram of where to find all the vacuum lines?

I agree with the vacuum leak as the probable cause of the idle problem. With the generator hunting I had the same problem and ran SeaFoam thru it and all the hunting stopped it cleaned up the carb and fuel system. I put 5 cans in my main fuel tank 75 gal and ran the generator about 4 hours and everything cleared up. Just a thought

I would check or have someone check the throttle position sensor. I had a similar issue on a 1998 Winnebago with a Ford V10.

No I have not changed the gas cap.

Have you changed the gas cap since you bought it a few months ago?

Thanks for the information on the Vacuum leak, I have not seen anything on that yet.

I have not tested the the heater or defrost only used the AC and it seemed to work fine through the trip.

It is exactly as you explain, it only happens after driving for a while. It does not seem to be a problem in the morning before it warms up.

On more thing We just noticed also, The generator wavers when it first starts also but once it gets going and has some load on it it seems to run fine for the rest of the time. Just wanted to be sure that was out there. Didn't know if this was related or just coincidental.

Problems at idle normally would indicate a vacuum leak.

A blocked fuel filter or poor fuel pump would give much less power at higher speeds, or while getting up to speed - say entering the freeway.

Vacuum leaks can be found by spraying with something like WD 40, and the idle speed will change when you spray it near the air leak.

Unless it is a major leak, it is probably something I would rather fix after the trip. It might involve removing the air intake, and re-sealing it. You might also only have a couple of cracked or leaking vacuum hoses, something that is really easy to fix in route.

Is anything not working? Bounders use electric controls for the heater/vent/ defrost system, and will not show up the typical vacuum leak symptom of changing to defrost when there is a vacuum leak.

Also does this happen only after driving for a while? Say when you start the engine in the morning, is it a problem? Or only while it is warmed up?

I would recommend running a diagnostic check on your engine and perhaps it will identify the problem.

Yup, Have only had it happen during idle. Runs fine as soon as I give it gas, but if I let off the gas again it will start doing it again.
