1999 F53 Tires

I have a 2000 34' Fourwinds on a 1999 F53 chassis w 32,000 mi. I just changed the tires for the first time. Had 245 70R 19.6 Goodyear G159. Relatively satisfied. Only changed because I blew two because of damage from oil from a wheel seal leak and because i got a really good price on the R250F. Switched to 245 70R 19.5 Bridgestone R250F. Sick I maded the change. Handeling went from easy to nearlly impossible. Was a pleasure to drive. Unless I get it figured out will have to change tires again, or never drive it again. interesting in others experiences.
  • Don't think so, unless it was installed at the factory. Several years ago I added a Mor/Ryde suspension system to improve the ride, but have used it for several thousand miles with the old tires, no problem
  • Thanks guys for all the help. Coach had always been such a pleasure to drive before. Now it's work. I double check the preasure and wait a while before taking drastic masures.
  • Have Bridgestone 250's on the front. When I first had them put on, I thought the front end felt 'greasy'. About 300 miles later I became VERY happy with them.
Be sure to use Bridgestone psi and load the front axle. I would guess that some sort of mold release needs to be worn off the new tires before you can drive with one hand (or finger) again.

  • It is NOT unusual for tires to squirm for the first few hundred miles.

My advice-- give it a thousand miles and THEN evaluate them.

And obviously, make sure they are inflated per your tire manufacturer's recommendation for your actual weight. 30 PSI over or under inflated will make any tire handle poorly. Said another way, the proper minimum PSI per Michelin for the tires on our coach is 70 or 110 depending on weight carried. HUGE difference.
  • I replaced the G159s on my '99 F53 with Hankook AH-11s on the rear and R250Fs on the front. Make sure that you do not over inflate the front tires and have as much weight on the front axle as is safe.

I believe this is the model and size Bridgestone tire that a friend bought, he was of the same opinion in the beginning with them (all over the road, constant correction required), then around 500 miles his opinion changed. FWIW, I believe production of the G159 ceased in '06.
  • My 99 F53 came with G 159,s.Changed to Goodyear G670,s about 6 years ago.Way better ride .I store the MH inside so I think I can get a few more years out of them.
  • I went from Goodyear G159's to Hankock Ah-11, WOW what a big difference in the way this rig drives. Cost was much less also. I've had them on now over 3 years and no problems.
