255/80r22.5 Hard to find and expensive.

Some rims are simply too narrow for some tires.

Technically the 255/80 specs say it's approved for 7.5" & 8.25" wide wheels.

When we were up sizing our tires we couldn't go with 295/80s as they were rated too wide for our wheels. We ended up with 11R/22.5s as they were the same height and approved for our wheels.

Correct.

Agree that the 6.75" wheels may be slightly less than ideal for the 255/80R22.5. BUT, ran that combination on our 1993 Foretravel U240 with no problems as a replacement for the OE 9R22.5. So have many, many others.

I run The 275/70's
They work fine although the Odometer is off about 5 Percent! Fine if You typically run at 55 Mph ,we are actually running at 58 ,still acceptable on those Roads with a 55 Max Speed!

Well Sir, short story. We purchased our coach 6 years ago, with tires dated 3410. I thought back then, "Wow, these ought to last me a long, long time. These are the Michelin XRV 255 x 80R 22.5". Well, 6.5 years later and only 38-39K miles on them, they are pure junk. Each and every one of them had sidewall cracking. My front right was wearing terribly. The front left was not too far behind.
Well, after a short investigation, some tire chart comparisons, I found out that the Yokahama RY 103, 265 x 75 x 22.5" was an almost perfect match with very, very minor differences. Not only that but, the Michelins are proprietary. Only THEY make the 255. And, IF, you can find some, you'll most likely pay over $500 each, not including mounting and balancing.

So, the 265 RY 103 Yokahamas were installed yesterday, for a mere $385 (ea) and that included mounting and balancing (balancing beads). Considerably less and a great tire with great reviews.

Ya, 7.5" rims should be fine.

Very handy. I use this after I find tires available in the 22.5" size on Amazon or on other dealer sites. I have used Amazon because I'm a Prime member and shipping is free. So I save $50/tire on shipping. And the price is competitive.

Our rims are 7.5s and we had 275/70s.

On the Spartan tag inside says 7.5 rims. I can put my fist sideways not longways between the tandems.
