30 Amp Circuit Out

I have a Four Winds Majestic 28A. I was plugged in to my household electricity on 30 amp. I turned on a space heater and it knocked out the circuit.
Does anyone know how to restore it?

If your 28A is like my 28R then your converter is in the side of the rear bed's pedestal - the shower side of the coach.

Open the cover door. The 12V side is on the right-hand side. The 120V side is on the left. On the 120V side there are 4 circuit breakers - just like what you see in a residential electrical panel:
    - air conditioner
    - refrigerator
    - microwave
    - AC outlets

As noted previously, the breaker for the AC outlets may have been tripped. Resetting it may be all that is needed. Refer to PDF pages 24-26 in this link. Also check/reset the GFCI AC outlet in the bathroom.
  • Just as an FYI, those space heaters can use a lot of power. Some 120V ones are 1500 watts!

Are you asking how to re-set the home circuit breaker? That is really simple, you just turn off the circuit breaker, and turn it back on. If you are un-sure, ask a neighbor. Almost everyone should know how to reset a circuit breaker, and most tract homes have all the circuit breakers located in a similar area, so a neighbor will know where to find your circuit breaker box - most likely.

  • Hi,

If you tripped a 30 amp breaker in the house, probably what happened is the 12.5 amp electric heater, refrigerator and perhaps the water heater where all on at once, and that might have caused it to go over 30 amps.

Even the battery charger (if it was low might have been drawing as much as 7 amps) and the electric heater along with something like the microwave or a hair dryer, it will exceed 30 amps.

I would try re-setting it, and then run the heater on low setting. THis will probably keep it below 30 amps.

If you are on a 20 amp circuit with the adapter from the RV, you might not be able to use any electric heaters, or make sure the refrigerator is on gas, the water heater is not on electric, and you should be OK on the heater if it stays on low output.

Also if you are at a friend's house, they might be running a TV or computer inside the house, also using part of the 15 or 20 amps that can trip a home circuit breaker, if you are plugged into the garage or other outside receptacle. And any Christmas lights might also be on the same breaker - they would have gone off at the same time as the RV lost power if so.

The best places to plug into while visiting friends are the washing machine receptacle, it is dedicated 20 amp PER NEC requirements. Or if they have a 4 wire 30 amp dryer, you can adapt that to feed your 50 amp RV with a home made adapter.

I assume you popped a circuit breaker. You have to find out if it popped in your house or in your MH. Are you plugged into a 30 amp circuit from your house, or are you using an adapter to go from a 15 or 20amp house circuit to your 30 amp RV connection ?

Dedicated 30A circuit in your home? Did that breaker trip?

Coach should have an onboard Breaker (for 120VAC circuits) and Fuse (for 12VDC circuits) Panel. Have you found it? I don't know your model but if it isn't obvious, look on the sides and end of the Pedestal that supports the bed. That's where it is on our Jayco.

If only one circuit in the coach went out, it could be IN or Downstream Of, a GFCI outlet. Find the GFCI outlet and cycle it. Use a light to make sure it powered up.
