50 amp motor home, plugged into 30 amp ??

Well I guess they down graded the system on your coach my 2000 converter/inverter had to be on but not inverting, that we turned on just to get 120 off the batteries. Same with older and younger Monaco's I've worked/played with. The switch on the converter/inverter was/needed to be on but the panel in the coach needed to only be turned on to invert.

Thanks for all the replies. Right now, I'm running 1 Air Conditioner, TV, Sat Dish Box, Convection oven. and whatever else that is automatically drawing amps. With those devices running, I'm drawing 26 amps. So far, no problems. Thanks again.

Then you haven't seen ours. Like the man said, some systems require the inverter to be ON (not inverting, just not off) to flow AC to the coach. Ours operates just like that. If our Trace 2500 is OFF, then every AC outlet in the coach is dead. I'm going to fix that, but that's the way Monaco built it in 2003, so I really doubt that it is unique.

We had 50 amp but never left the inverter on.

As stated, you'll know you have too much running when you trip the breaker. Turn something off and you'll be good to go.

Any inverter/converter combo I have seen has a flow through of two 20 amp breakers, but does not need to have the inverter on to have 120 flow through. On 30 amp hookups I go by a rule of three. Sometimes you can get away with three thing on, but most of the time only two before a 120 problem, breakers.

2 A/C's that happen to both start up at the same time will very likely trip a 30 amp circuit. Even if they don't you won't have much (if any reserve capacity so you need to ensure nothing else is going to kick in while both A/C's are running. If you have an electrical management system it will usually prevent both from kicking in together and some can shut down 1 A/C (or alternate the 2 A/C's) to allow other operations.

2 AC's and 30 Amp OK, 2 AC's and the Microwave on 30 AMP, no good. We turn off 1 air when we need to run the Microwave and everything is happy!.

Firstly do you have a EMS and know that some coaches do not.
If so, it will see the 30 and there's usually a button setting for bringing it down, as well.
It will then act as 30 and shed what's needed temporarily to keep from tripping the pedestal breaker. I have seen where the charger isn't being recognized and if on with very low batteries, then you might trip the pedestal breaker, anyway. Either way, it doesn't hurt anything and what its there for.
I'm running on 30amps in the driveway at present and am able to run both ac's and the fridge as well. Nothing much else though with the ac's at about 12amps a piece, the fridge at about 3amps and another amp or so with the charger floating on charged batteries.
